Responsibilities

LearningObjectives Interns will learn the processes used by researchers in the area of specialization. These internships are designed for individuals interested in research careers in the areas of emphasis or related areas. In particular, students that plan to pursue graduate degrees in any of the areas below may find the internship to be a valuable experience. Endocrinology: Intern works with the endocrine lab manager and will receive guidance from the behavioral endocrinologist on the techniques needed to complete a small independent research project at the Zoo either focused on a specific aspect of wildlife endocrinology or integrating both behavioral studies and endocrinology. Intern will have an opportunity for hands-on learning of all aspects of non-invasive hormone analyses (primarily fecal hormone analyses). Some previous relevant lab experience, as well as undergraduate coursework in physiology and biochemistry is preferred. Intern will present the results of his/her findings at a mini-symposium held at Brookfield Zoo.

Requirements

Requirements · Minimum two years college at an accredited institution; G.P.A. 2.5/4.0, majoring in biology, ecology, endocrinology, animal science, or other directly relevant field. Minimum 18 years of age. Specific coursework preferred depending on the work performed and area assigned. · Completion of a reflective journal or project required as part of internship. · Strong interpersonal and communications skills. · Good computer skills. · Good organizational skills. · Must be able to commit to 12 weeks; approximately 40 hours/week
