Summary Description

The Inspection Manager is responsible for directly overseeing a group of typically 5 -- 10 team members in the Inspection Department of a single facility. The Inspection Manager is held accountable for his team in supporting production goals, production quality, safety training, and documentation guidelines as established by the Company. Additionally, the Inspection Manager ensures that his team's activities are in accordance within Company guidelines and customer specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities are listed below. Other duties may be assigned.

* Maintain safety amongst team by promoting GBW's safety culture, being aware of surrounding, and reporting safety concerns to the site EHS Manager. The Inspection Manager will be responsible for implementing new safety policies and holding their team accountable for policy violations.
* Responsible for the complete oversight of the pre-work inspection process, and ensuring the work adheres to GBW, regulatory and customer guidelines.
* Liaison between the Quality and Inbound Inspectors and the Production team; ensures inspection department activities are prioritized to meet the overall production needs.
* Assures that all documentation required for the proper inspection of the car is organized and available to the inspection personnel.
* Assign daily tasks to team and hold direct reports accountable for their output. Partner with Supervisors and Plant Superintendent regarding any production or quality concerns with any shop personnel.
* Builds relationships with customers to ensure customer satisfaction; evaluates and responds to escalated customer concerns.
* Participates in root-cause investigations, and corrective and preventative actions to prevent recurrence
* Assist in hiring of employees by interviewing applicants and providing evaluation to Plant Superintendent, Plant Manager, and/or Human Resources.
* Ensure the accuracy of daily and biweekly time cards by auditing daily time cards each morning for prior shift and providing daily approval for job costing. Approve direct reports' timecards biweekly for payroll.
* Continually coach team members on performance, conduct team member performance reviews, and provide recommendation for wage changes. Coordinate with Human Resources on corrective actions when needed. Provide recommendation to Plant Superintendent and Plant Manager for terminations.
* Perform other duties or projects as assigned by shop management or Quality leadership.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* High School Diploma or equivalent
* 3 - 5 years' work related experience in railcar inspection, documentation, estimating and/or work order formation.
* Perform/ prioritize multiple tasks with attention to details.
* Ability to follow oral and written instructions including basic blue prints and schematics.
* Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) to support management functions
* Knowledge of FRA, AAR, industry and customer requirements.
* Ability to organize and direct oneself and effectively supervise others.
* Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships and teamwork.
* Ability to communicate effectively with others verbally and to communicate in writing clearly and concisely.
* Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including steel toed boots, goggles, ear plugs, gloves).

Working Conditions

With the exception of clerical, administrative, and some management positions, which require indoor work, the physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid and dusty conditions. Team members are required to use personal protective equipment as environmental conditions dictate.
