Job Description

Through the Looking Glass (TLG) seeks an Occupational Therapist. TLG is a Berkeley based and internationally recognized organization serving children and families with disabilities.

SUMMARY:Through the Looking Glass is seeking a full-time Occupational Therapist and will strongly consider a new graduate if he or she has a strong interest and dedication to not only working with children with disabilities but parents with disabilities as well. The position is split between serving children with disabilities and their families in the home and at the center and serving parents with physical disabilities or blindness in the home. The OT would mentor closely with existing OT’s related to serving both populations.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES: The OT will receive individual weekly supervision and mentoring by TLG’s OTs and staff, who have unique, nationally recognized expertise working with parents with disabilities. The OT will also participate in weekly TLG multi-disciplinary staff meetings, which include case presentations and trainings.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy, with a California OT License. Experience or internships with adults who have disabilities as well as pediatrics a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide home-based and center-based assessment and early intervention for children under the age of five years

  • Support quality interaction and relationships between infants or children and parents

  • Coordinate intervention during teamwork with other TLG and community providers

  • Complete necessary record-keeping and reports

  • Respect cultural and disability differences in a diverse community

  • Other duties as assigned

Language Skills:Bilingual, bi-literate preferred, English/Spanish or ASL, and/or other language ability based on program needs. Ability to write reports, assessments and progress notes; Ability to effectively communicate with other staff and workers in the community.

Computer Skills:Ability to use computers for completing assessments, writing reports and progress notes.

Certifications, Licenses and Registrations:Possession of a California Occupational Therapy license, a valid California driver license; current personal vehicle insurance. May be required to use personal vehicle in successful completion of job duties and responsibilities. State regulations require a physical examination, current tuberculosis test, and verified fingerprint and criminal record check prior to hire.
