Description
In this position you will assist in all aspects of publicity and promotion as you support special purePR client accounts under the supervision of purePR’s owner, Gretchen Jameson.
This is an experience-rich internship that will provide you with direct opportunities to meet clients, collaborate on high level planning, and deliver content that will meaningfully impact real time campaigns for a wide range of non-profit clients.
The 3-month (minimum) unpaid internship offers qualified candidates the opportunity to build a quality portfolio with an emphasis on new media, writing, event PR, and earned media campaigns.
The preferred intern must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and must be task-oriented with an ability to start and finish assigned projects with a high level of personal organization.
Excellent candidates will be self-starters, strong team players with the ability and willingness to tackle any task at hand, and possess a keen interest in public relations, nonprofit work, and strategic communications.
Responsibilities
You will work closely with the staff on projects emphasizing:
New Media Publicity: Assisting with community management, editorial posting, and metrics on various client and firm-focused social networks and social media hubs (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, etc.)
Copy Writing: Developing and posting articles, news releases, e-news articles, and other copy assignments for client accounts and firm-focused needs.
Review Processing: Reviewing publications, online tracking (analytics), and bookmarking clippings
Research: Identifying ideal media contacts and outlets via web based research and social media relationship management and developing lists for use with specific client accounts and firm-focused activity.
Requirements
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Outstanding interpersonal, communications, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Strong presentation and writing skills and the ability to communicate ideas clearly.
A positive team contributor.
Able to work in a Macintosh computer environment.
Demonstrate experience with Web-based media including social networking tools, blogs, e-mail, forums etc.
Preferable: Understanding of layout design, and working knowledge of professional publishing and presentation software including the Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and the Apple Office Suite.
Education & Applicant Requirements:
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree program with an emphasis on public relations, writing, communications, marketing communications, media, business, or related field with an average 3.0 GPA or higher.
Applicants must provide 2 written recommendations that focus on their skills and their personal strengths as related to the position description.
Writing samples and an interview will be required.
Candidates will be asked to submit a written piece that explores their personal connection and commitment to purePR’s mission and value core.
Duration:
Candidates must be available for in-office work 10 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months. (1) week per quarter will be provided for vacation.
