Metro Area: DC - Washington

Major(s): Advertising, Business, Marketing, Publishing

Description (full): Students seeking hands-on experience in the field of advertising sales and marketing are encouraged to apply for an internship within ABC's Publications Department. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about various aspects of advertising and marketing for ABC's publications including the National Internships Guide 2007. Opportunities for internships are available year-round. To ensure that the intern maximizes his/her experience, candidates must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. Candidates who can work full-time are preferred.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting the Director of Advertising with ad placement for ABC's regional publications, working closely with Print & Design Manager on ad layouts, making follow up phone calls to advertisers, assisting with promotional materials for ad/publication sales, proofreading ads, working with the Manager of Publications Marketing to promote the ABC publications and website, and establishing relationships with advertisers, book publishers, distributors and wholesalers.

Requirements: College students, graduate students and graduates are eligible for unpaid ABC internships. This internship is offered to those with strong academic backgrounds who seek advertising, marketing or book production experience and have or are working toward a business or marketing degree. Candidates should possess strong written and oral communications skills. An understanding of the career-related website field is advantageous but not required.

How to apply: Upon receipt, applications will be screened to determine which applicant best meets the needs of this department. ABC staff will then interview selected applicants for internship positions. If you are interested in applying for an internship, please submit a cover letter (indicating your specific area(s) of interest/expertise, as well as your availability and schedule), a writing sample that demonstrates your ability to synthesize complex information in a reader-friendly style, and three reference with at least one reference that is non-academic (this does not mean letters of recommendation but rather names/phone numbers of three individuals for whom you have worked or with whom you have taken a class and who know you well enough to discuss your qualifications). Submit materials to Mark Robinholt.
