Description

The Mikeology Store is a small, growing, company specializing in the cultivation of exotic mushrooms. Our mushrooms can be found in many of the most highly acclaimed restaurants in Minneapolis and our products are offered to the public in specialty grocers and Co-op's.

I am seeking a highly ambitious, focused, detail oriented person for an internship program. As an intern, you will learn all aspects of our business to include, but not limited to;

* The biology of saprophytic fungi
* Wild mushroom identification
* Substrate and proprietary organic additive selection
* Pasteurization and sterilization techniques
* Mushroom cloning and culture propagation
* Environmental conditioning techniques
* Sales, marketing and branding

This is a highly demanding opportunity that sometimes requires long and unpredictable hours performing very physical work, some of which is repetitive and monotonous. The individual selected should have the ability to routinely lift 40lbs. It has been my experience that a successful candidate will have an unusual affinity for all things fungi and a genuine deep interest in the world of mycology.

In order to be considered for this role, you must possess ALL of the following perquisites;

* An academic background in mycology, biology, plant pathology or similarly related course work.
OR
* A demonstrable and substantive background in successful mushroom cultivation

* Cell phone and computer with internet access.
* Personal transportation 24/7
* Personal and professional references (preferably your professors)
* Thick skin and a slightly warped sense of humor

This is a very unique opportunity that can lead to a highly lucrative career for the right individual. If you meet the above criteria and have an interest in discussing the position in greater detail, please respond with a thoughtful cover letter and resume to:

Responsibilities

You will play a important role in assisting with 6-8 production cycles per week transferring mycelium to final substrate for ultimate commercial production of multiple species of exotic mushrooms. You may, at times, perform field work foraging wild edible mushrooms and learning identification techniques. At some point during your tenure you will be asked to take part in every facet of the business to include lab work and sales.
