The Counselor/intern will provide mental health counseling, assessment and treatment services, preventive mental health and case management services to children, adults and couples
ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION. Constitute the major responsibilities for anyone serving in this capacity. *
I. Key Responsibility Area: Assessment of client(s)
Performance Standards: Complete duties as indicated in a clinically appropriate time frame; follow all professional/ outcome evaluation standards of the agency and its sources of accreditation certification; determine appropriateness of service requests ; complete diagnostic/assessment packet within the first three sessions; obtain necessary consents and releases ; appropriately consult with past or present service providers; review appropriate procedures and information; obtain necessary signatures from clients and supervisors ; complete a thorough and timely mental health clinical assessment with appropriate recommendations ; staff all high-risk cases with supervisor as soon as possible
II. Key Responsibility Area: Treatment Plan Development and Treatment Delivery
Performance Standards: Complete duties as indicated in a clinically appropriate time frame (clinical rationale must be documented if time lines are not met) ; follow all professional/ outcome evaluation standards of the agency and its sources of accreditation certification; Service Activity Notes and Progress Notes show continuity from diagnostic assessment and individual service plan and/or indicate clinical rationale for deviations ; an outcome study (including quality assurance evaluations) is administered at the appropriate times during the treatment plan; develop a treatment plan with the primary client based on the diagnostic assessment and clinical diagnosis ; demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of psychotherapeutic interventions to be used with clients ; review treatment plan with client at clinically appropriate intervals ; case closing is discussed with client, and as clinically appropriate ; case management activities are conducted when necessary and clinically appropriate
III. Key Responsibility Area: Documentation and Communication Skills
Performance Standards: Complete duties as indicated in a clinically appropriate time frame (clinical rationale must be documented if time lines are not met) ; follow all professional/ outcome evaluation standards of the agency and its sources of accreditation certification; statistical data and agency forms are accurate and submitted in a timely manner, with statistical data regularly collected and recorded for each client ; clinical record documentation is complete, legible, and up-to-date ; information (written and oral) is communicated to staff, client, family members, and other agencies in a clear, accurate, timely and professional manner
Requirements• Working toward Masters degree in social work or counseling
• Ability to utilize appropriate supervision and peer consultation
• Beginning ability to effectively utilize other avenues of ongoing education
• Goal oriented counseling
• Use of case work group work, C.O., social planning, administration, etc.
• Integration of theory and practice
• Ability to formulate and carry out independent assessment, diagnosis and treatment plans
• Integration of professional values
• Sound interviewing, intervention and documentation skills
• General research skills
