DescriptionAre you ready to make an impact on the future of young girls in science, technology, engineering and math? Put your knowledge and college courses in counseling, psychology, sociology, or early childhood development to good use this summer with an influential internship, right here at Queens University! Project Scientist Academy is looking for 5 to 10 Counseling Interns to help facilitate campers’ daily reflection and path visualization for Project Scientist Academy campers (girls, 4-12) and Project Scientist Scholars (girls, 13 & up)!
Throughout the five-weeks of camp, Counseling Interns will work alongside Project Scientist’s STEM Counselor, coaches, and staff from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, five days a week helping to identify areas of individual giftedness and encouraging goal setting. Furthermore, Counseling Interns will work with Project Scientist’s STEM counselor to identify potential candidates to apply for scholarship programs, awards, and STEM honors, both locally and nationally. Interns will acquire real field-experience encouraging students, helping them set attainable goals, and guiding their STEM journey. As a Project Scientist Counseling Intern you will help shape the minds, paths and enthusiasm of our talented and passionate students.
ResponsibilitiesProject Scientist Interns are vital to providing students with a well-balanced, integrated STEAM experience. Throughout camp Interns will both draw on and grow their knowledge of psychology, sociology, counseling, and early childhood development, as they gain real field-experience in counseling and academic advising. Throughout the summer interns will lead students in goal setting, personal reflection, achievement visualization and career mapping to promote, encourage and facilitate girls’ achievement in and enthusiasm for STEM. Counseling interns will work closely with Project Scientist’s STEM Counselor to identify students’ strengths, gifted abilities and areas of interest, serving in every capacity from conducting research to advising students.
This unpaid internship position will work five days a week alongside Project Scientist’s STEM Counselor and staff, Project Scientist Academy teachers and coaches to facilitate individually focused academic and professional guidance, support, and encouragement. The ideal candidate would be an individual passionate about empowering young girls to reach their highest potential. This individual should be a high-energy, hard working and committed college or post-graduate student with an interest and academic background in counseling, psychology, sociology, or childhood development.

Counseling Interns will work to administer data measurement and collection strategies throughout the entirety of camp, which will be held from June 23 – August 8, at Queens University of Charlotte and Trinity Episcopal School in Charlotte, NC. In preparation for camp Interns will also work alongside Project Scientist staff the few weeks prior to and following the conclusion of camp.
