DescriptionThe NYU Langone Medical Center's Summer Program for Kids is an evidence-based, all-day treatment program for children aged 7-11 with ADHD. The program is held at The College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, NY from June 26-August 11, 2017. We are seeking junior level (entering junior year in September) or higher college students, preferably psychology or education majors, with experience working with children. This is an unpaid internship for professional development and/or NYU school credit. Interns will be under the direct supervision of a trained professional. Prior to the start of the program, counselors are required to participate in a comprehensive training program beginning end of May for approximately 3-1/2 weeks. Training is held at our offices in Lake Success, NY, and New York, NY, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Program hours are 8:15 am to 3:15 pm Monday through Friday. However, counselor hours are from 7:30 am to approximately 5:30 pm to complete daily data entry and paperwork at end of day. Housing is not provided, however, we can supply you with a list of resources for obtaining housing on your own.
The position provides junior and senior level undergraduate, and graduate level students with a valuable opportunity to receive training and gain experience with children in a clinical setting.

ResponsibilitiesPrior to the start of the program, counselors are required to participate in a comprehensive training program beginning last week of May, for 3-1/2 weeks. Training is held at our Lake Success, NY and New York, NY locations.
Counselors will supervise 4 groups of 12-14 children during daily activities. Implement comprehensive behavior modification system. Monitor children's functioning. Interact with parents as required. Daily data collection .
Requirements• Excellent academic skills, preferably psychology or education majors; currently enrolled or recent graduates
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Experience working with children; ability to be playful
• Capability to react quickly and to deal with stressful situations
• High level of motivation, enthusiasm and energy!
• Eagerness to learn; ability to accept and utilize constructive feedback
• Sports skills and knowledge (basketball, kick ball, softball, soccer, and swimming)
