The Masakhane Center is seeking passionate, motivated people to join our education team! Sexuality Educators work in the Newark, NJ community providing sex positive education to the community. Sexuality Educators receive extensive training on a variety of sexuality topics and workshop facilitation techniques. While this internship position is unpaid, all educators are given real world, hands-on experience in the non-profit world and sexuality education field, and the responsibility to manage substantive projects.

SCHEDULE
All interns are required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, choosing between an A or B schedule.

FALL 2017 INTERNSHIP

*Note: interns must be available during these times, but may not work these exact hours each week. Schedules are determined during training, and can change throughout the internship.

Only those selected for an interview are contacted (usually within 48 hours).

Responsibilities

Facilitate sexuality workshops at local schools and community-based organizations.

Work with youth to create tailor-made sexuality education programs for their programs.

Create and execute a significant project that utilizes current skills and interests, and are in line with Masakhane’s needs.

Assist in street outreach and health fairs, as needed.

Assist in the occasional planning and execution of special events.

Requirements

Must be able to advocate for sex positive education, racial and reproductive justice, and gender and sexual minority rights.

Ability to work with individuals and groups of varying ages and backgrounds.

Ability to travel throughout Newark. Living in or around Newark is a plus but not a requirement.

Excellent organizational, time management, writing, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsible, creative, reliable and energetic.

Strong attention to detail.

Must be able to work within a team and independently.

We prefer our interns to use this as part of a credit bearing course, but those not seeking credit as also encouraged to apply.
