Description

For over forty years, Clean Water Action (CWA) has worked tirelessly with all levels of government to ensure major environmental statutes -- the foundation of environmental and public health protections in this country -- were enacted and not weakened. As, citizen watchdogs, CWA continues to work to strengthen critical environmental legislation including the Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and other laws that have been established to protect the public. CWA is a non-partisan, national organization with three offices located in Michigan. CWA is currently focused on bringing renewable energy jobs to Michigan; protecting our water from being sold for profit; keeping our water under public control; protecting our kids and communities for harmful pollution; and working to elect pro-environment candidates at the local, state, and national levels.

2014 is a pivotal election year for the protection of the Great Lakes and we are currently seeking interns to help with our election campaigns.

Responsibilities

Intern projects/tasks vary depending on current campaigns. Potential issues include renewable energy campaigns, Great Lakes issues, drinking water standards, children's health legislation, and water infrastructure. Interns generally help by monitoring pending legislation, conducting issue and legal research as it pertains to existing and pending environmental laws. Interns primary focus with be to engage in election work and see first-hand how they can empower citizens to make democracy work. No clerical work is required. Interns for Clean Water Action can expect a diverse work experience.

Requirements

Passion for environmental issues and politically minded.
