Independent Television Service, Inc. (ITVS) is a nonprofit organization chartered by Congress to make unique and compelling programs for public television. ITVS brings to local and national audiences high-quality, content-rich programs created by a diverse body of independent producers. ITVS programs reflect underrepresented and underserved communities. (

ITVS is seeking interns to support activities in the programming, production, communications and business affairs departments. In addition to gaining hands-on work experiences, the interns will attend organizational and community engagement events, view producer rough cuts, and participate in staff activities. The intern will observe how programs are evaluated, managed, and distributed to reach the widest audience. The ideal student intern is passionate about documentaries, publicity, marketing, outreach, social media technology trends and other facets of public television and media. Depending on needs and student interest, student intern will be assigned to a department.


• Support the program proposal process (Programming)
• Assist in organizing files, media, and updating electronic information (All Departments)
• Help with outreach and community engagement events (Communications)
• Assist with publicity and marketing, draft web content and social media blogs (Communications)
• Electronic research of copyrights and intellectual property matters (Business Affairs)
• Provide support as needed (All Departments)


• Enrolled in school with a focus on film, broadcasting, sociology, public policy or marketing
• Detailed, organized, curious and self-directed
• Computer, software, and social media skills as they relate to job responsibilities
• Eager to learn and contribute to a nonprofit media organization
