8775 Centre Park Drive, #255, Columbia, MD
DescriptionAmerican Community Television (ACT) seeks an intern for a semester to assist the Executive Director with work on Capitol Hill.
ACT educates and advocates on behalf of Public, Educational and Government (PEG) access television. There are over 1,800 PEG access television operations with over 5,000 television channels in the United States. http://www.acommunitytv.org
ResponsibilitiesLegislative assistant to the Executive Director for Capitol Hill visits. Must be able to commute to Capitol Hill via metro, etc. This position will prepare all meeting documents for each office visit to include biography of the Congressman, information about the PEG access television stations in the district and any other information that would be helpful. The Executive Director has a specific format for these meeting documents and will assist the intern in learning how they are to be presented.
Ability to work on the organization's Wordpress based website, doing updates and postings, is a plus. And other duties as needed.
RequirementsWe are seeking an intern that has a passion for public policy (particularly telecommunications policy), a desire to be a part of the legislative process and to learn about the workings of Capitol Hill and excellent people skills with attention to detail.
The majority of this work will be done by telecommute, however, we require that the intern accompany the Executive Director on Capitol Hill visits (roughly once a week) in order to experience and learn about how Capitol Hill works and become familiar with the legislative process. A small stipend at the end of the internship is available as well as ongoing travel costs associated with going to Capitol Hill (metro fare, etc.).
It is expected the intern will learn about PEG access television and be able to articulate its most pressing issues by the end of the internship.
Intern must live in the DC Metro area and have access to public transportation, such as the Metro.
