Description:
The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
Some potential internship activities include:

• Assist with special projects related to the American Heart Association’s state and local policy priorities, including:
o Conduct background research for specific project initiatives or immediate public policy needs and summarize findings in a clear and concise manner. Topics may include heart disease and stroke prevention, access to healthcare, food and transportation, and more.
o Review and update advocacy training and educational materials.
o Research biographies on incoming members of the General Assembly and local elected officials.
o Shadow staff at the state legislature and attend meetings as a representative of the American Heart Association.
o Assist with the coordination of meetings, conferences, and events, including logistics planning, preparing materials, and compiling notes.
o Conduct and document interviews with specific AHA grassroots volunteers.
o Other government relations projects related to current policy campaigns.

Requirements

• Individual must:
o Have strong interest in government relations and health advocacy (prior internship and work experience in government relations, policy, or grassroots work preferred)
o Possess excellent computer skills and proficiency with using the Microsoft Office suite
o Possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
o Demonstrate the ability to interface with all levels of AHA/ASA staff and volunteers
o Demonstrate the ability to multi-task with minimal supervision
o Maintain confidentiality of all AHA/ASA and volunteer information
o Be motivated and self-directed

A background check is required. Site is accessible by car.
