DescriptionAfter years of working in the fashion industry separately and together, brothers Mauricio and Roger Padilha launched MAO Public Relations. In its first decade, MAO has successfully introduced new talent to the fashion industry as well as conceptualized and produced runway shows for various top Fashion Designers.
Native New Yorker Mauricio graduated from Parson’s School of Design with a BFA in Fashion Design and an associate degree in Fashion Marketing. Upon graduation, Mauricio worked as a Public Relations Director for various young designers until taking on the challenge of starting his own firm. In February ’97 he established MAO and in August 1998 opened a showroom in the heart of SoHo.
Roger, on the other hand, took the design route for his first 7 years in the industry as a design assistant for various design houses. In 1994 he started his own fashion line called Spooky, which made him a young designer star overnight. Until the company’s demise in 1998, Spooky was sold in major department stores and boutiques and appeared in most major fashion publications, broadcast and on the backs of countless celebrities.
Now in its 15th year, MAO Public Relations is enjoying a reputation as one of the hardest working Fashion PR Agencies in the Fashion Industry. The Padilha Brothers look forward to continued growth and seek to further the professional careers of their clients through promotion, publicity and image management by approaching each collection as if it were their own.
In addition to Public Relations, MAO’s productions of events and runway shows (most notably MAO SPACE, a week-long alternative show venue to the 7th on Sixth tents) has garnered them many awards and accolades including an award from Mayor Bloomberg for Promotion of Local Business, becoming the youngest members of the CFDA Fashion Week Advisory Council, BizBash’s top 15 event planners behind New York City’s biggest events and smartest marketing strategies and being named two of Instinct Magazine’s 10 Men of the Year 2005.
As well, their ongoing publication of MAO MAG, a bi-annual fashion week glossy magazine is sold in newsstands and specialty boutiques across the country and abroad. MAO MAG has secured and interviewed fashion industry legends for profiles such as Carine Roitfeld, Donna Karen, Hugh Hefner, Polly Mellen, Christian Louboutin, Norma Kamali, Camilla Nickerson, Liza Minelli, Naomi Campbell, Philip Treacy, Chloe Sevigny, Deborah Harry, Kate Moss, Jean Paul Gaultier, Simon Doonan, Ruben & Isabel Toledo, Francesco Scavullo, Angelica Houston, Michael Kors, Pamela Anderson, Patricia Field, and Beyonce among many others.

Responsibilities• As an intern you will be an integral part of the day to day operations at Mao PR.
• Work with stylists and editors to coordinate sample pulls and track all samples.
• Maintain the look of the showroom.
• Production work (case by case basis as we acquire new events).
• Work directly with CEO, Creative Director and Account Executives on specific projects – tasks change as we get to know your strengths and weaknesses.
• Office errands.
• Fashion Week: Work for fashion week begins immediately – you will be involved in handling guest lists and front of house.
Requirements• 2-4 days a week. The more days you can commit to, the more duties you will have.
• 10am-6pm (Some after work + Weekends)
• Interest in fashion, production and public relations.
