Description

The American Library Association (ALA) is the oldest and largest library association in the world. Founded in 1876, our mission is to share our vision of the importance of libraries, literacy and free access to information. ALA offers professional services and publications to members and nonmembers, including online news stories from American Libraries and analysis of crucial issues from our Washington Office. Our main office is located in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast, right off of Michigan Ave, with satellite offices in Washington, DC, Connecticut, and Philadelphia.

This opportunity is in our Public Information Office (PIO) at our Chicago location.

Responsibilities

Update author/celebrity Twitter list. Update ALA social media list. Enter stories into database. Help gather and prepare stories, input into data base, write blog and press release copy. Obtain testimonials from users about value of @ your library brand.

Identify examples of how libraries are promoting Teen Read Week, Library Card Sign-up Month , NLW, etc. for media relations efforts. Gather information for @ your library articles and blogs.

Write articles and gather information for @ your library.org on the topics of libraries and e books and digital content, community engagement and libraries, and school libraries, plus other topics to be determined.

Support Campaign in its efforts to implement I love my Librarian, and other related projects.

Assist in preparation of individual I love my librarian winner press releases, identify media outlets in their home town and place the releases, identify professional organizations the winner wants the release sent to.

Assist with other media relations projects of the Public Information Office as needed.

Requirements

Experience and/or interest in public relations, and promotion.
