Description

The New Jersey Coalition for Battered Women is seeking a communications intern to assist in the organization’s public awareness and media advocacy efforts. Interns of the Coalition are integral to the work to end dating/domestic violence and participate in a range of staff activities, giving the intern multiple opportunities for skill and career development. Essential projects include the preparation of Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities, media outreach, social media campaigns, graphic design and the launch of a new, responsive website. The NJCBW communications intern will be part of an exciting time that includes a name change, new logo, 30th anniversary and more!

Responsibilities

The Communications Intern will:
- Draft and archive press announcements for NJCBW
- Monitor news coverage for the ways local and national media cover domestic violence; compile news digests
- Support and archive NJCBW’s public awareness campaigns, including Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) 2015 coming up in October
- Update media lists
- Help coordinate events
- Draft and distribute e-newsletters
- Maintain website content
- Contribute to social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube)
- Write other copy as needed
- Provide communications office support
- Complete other duties as assigned

Requirements

The ideal candidate must possess:
- Experience with email marketing tools (e.g. Constant Contact, MailChimp)
- Experience with web Content Management Systems (WordPress preferred)
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite
- Superb writing skills
- Solid research skills
- Attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A professional and positive demeanor
- Experience with graphic design and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite preferred
