DescriptionEncounter Books is an activity of Encounter for Culture and Education, a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation dedicated to strengthening the marketplace of ideas and engaging in educational activities to help preserve democratic culture. We publish several dozen non-fiction titles each year, in trade cloth, trade paper, and e-book formats. The internship offers candidates an opportunity to get involved in publishing and familiarize themselves with all aspects of the trade. Visit our website to learn more about us: http://www.encounterbooks.com/
We consider applications on a rolling basis. Start/end dates are flexible, though we do ask for a minimum three-month commitment. Interns have the option of working full-time (Monday through Thursday) or part-time in our office near Union Square. We are currently seeking interns for the fall, roughly September through December. Please include your desired start date and schedule in your cover letter.
Please send cover letter and resume to:
Executive Director, Operations
ResponsibilitiesInterns generally focus on either publicity or production. In your cover letter, please indicate your area(s) of interest, and we will do our best to assign you projects that align with your own goals for what you want to learn.
Publicity interns work closely with our publicity and marketing directors, who oversee publicity mailings, media coverage, promotional materials, and our online presence via our website and social media.
Production interns assist our production department, which coordinates with our authors, designers, editors, printers, and distributor to guide books and e-books from manuscript to finished product.
Interns are also expected to help with day-to-day office tasks, like answering the phone, manning the reception desk, routine paperwork, and boxing and unboxing books.
