Description

Description

The Mission of the Foundation
PXE International:
• Initiates, funds and conducts research on pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE)
• Provides support for individuals and families affected by PXE
• Provides resources for healthcare professionals

Currently we collaborate with PXE researchers around the world and to conduct small- and large-scale research studies, including an extensive epidemiological study. These studies usually consist of online questionnaires answered by individuals with PXE. The information is collected and analyzed to characterize the disease and discover potential biomarkers.

Please send your resume, cover letter, 2 references, and a writing example to Christine Vocke, Director of Education and Support, at cvocke@pxe.org to apply.

Responsibilities

PXE International is a small organization so all staff contribute in multiple ways.
Intern responsibilities include interacting directly with affected individuals by phone and email, collecting data for research studies, digitizing medical records, keeping up-to-date on relevant research studies, writing lay summaries of research studies, and using social media to connect with affected individuals. All staff contribute to day-to-day nonprofit organizational tasks. Filing, scanning, organizing and devising new strategies for our various processes are all critically important.

In addition, the student may pick a specific project on which to work. This can be anything from a fundraiser, to a new tool on our website, a better method for patient assistance, a grant proposal, and so on.

Requirements

Interest in epidemiology, research, and health advocacy are encouraged. Good communication, computer, Microsoft Office, database and phone skills are highly preferred. PXE International welcomes applicants in all stages of academic or professional development. This is an unpaid position with a $100/week travel and expenses stipend. Hours are negotiable.
