DescriptionWriting and Research Internship opportunity working in downtown Manhattan in the TriBeCa studio of an internationally exhibited conceptual artist and photographer. The ideal candidate has the ability to articulate artworks from a visual, artistic and art historical perspective in a social/political context, which incorporates contemporary concerns that inform the artworks. We are looking for someone who is organized, responsible, thoughtful, positive and enthusiastic. Writing projects will include but not be limited to project descriptions and proposals, concise summaries of ideas, text for publication including exhibition catalogs and artist’s books.
A combination of research and conversations with the artist will inform the writing produced as part of this internship. An ideal candidate will be able to commit to a time period of nine-months or more. Full time prefered, part time considered.
This internship will allow for complete immersion in an artist’s current practice, as well as rich history of artworks spanning the past four decades. The scope of information to be understood and drawn upon creates a unique opportunity for in-depth study and scholarly research. This opportunity is an unpaid internship.

Responsibilities-Writing descriptions of artist’s projects and drafting project proposals for upcoming artworks and installations.
-Compiling research connected to specific projects/artworks.
-Maintaining a record of conversations with the artist and points of interest.
-Composing general summaries as well as faithful descriptions of artworks and ideas.
-Writing text for a series of artist’s books each focusing on a specific research based art project.
-Develop content for the website
Requirements-Applicant should have a Masters degree or have equivalent past employment experience.
-Comprehensive knowledge of art history and ease discussing contemporary art and artists.
-Previous experience in publishing as well as copy editing.
-Should be familiar with ArtBase.
-Ability to write in a complex and scholarly style and also directly and concisely as needed.
-Ability to stay on task and complete long-term and short-term assignments. Must have excellent time management skills and be able to meet deadlines.
-Must have a close attention to detail be able to relay factual information accurately.
