Description

About The Retail Project:
The Retail Project is a start-up company that aims to support desirable and vibrant neighborhoods by reviving empty storefronts in Rhode Island and beyond. Jump-started with funds from the Rhode Island Foundation Innovation Fellowship, The Retail Project will establish sustainable brick and mortar retail stores by first creating them as profitable online businesses.
Across Rhode Island, empty or underutilized retail spaces litter the landscape. This is primarily because it is difficult in a small market like ours to grow and nurture a large, stable customer base. Our strategy is to rapidly create and test national retail brands that start online and later evolve into storefronts. We avoid the risk of build out and inventory up-front, and only create brick-and-mortar storefronts once each brand has proven itself online with predictable and profitable sales.
With three brands currently in operation and immediate plans for the creation and implementation of a fourth, we aim to eventually create jobs in retail, distribution, delivery, marketing, and more. We project 39 online stores, two storefronts, and 33 jobs in the next three years, and hundreds of stores over the next 10 to 15 years. Please visit www.retailprojectri.com to learn more about our process and first three brands.
