DescriptionThis is a great opportunity to join an exciting, rapidly growing, food company located in the Bay Area! We recently launched belicious: a completely new approach to nutrient dense, healthy, energy management (aka, a healthy snack). belicious is creating a new product category, and is ramping rapidly, as there is a large gap in current offerings, and consumers are very interested in getting nutrients from whole foods, quickly and conveniently.
The Merchandiser and Brand Ambassador intern is one of the most important positions in the company. You will work directly with the CEO to discuss and develop strategies for retail store roll-out and product placement. In addition, you will act as a direct liaison between the company, Bay Area retail stores, and the end customer. Your role will have a direct impact on brand placement, recognition and sales. ResponsibilitiesCandidate will report directly to the CEO, and will work with the CEO to strategize and create a specific action plan.
Candidate will develop relationships with key Bay Area retail store managers and buyers, check on product inventory, and help restock if necessary. Over time, and through developed relationships, candidate will negotiate better product placement for belicious in the stores, and work to educate retail grocery teams about the benefits of belicious.
Candidate will perform in-store product demonstrations on a regular basis, each 3-4 hours in length. Company will provide all resources necessary to support demonstrations, and will work with candidate to strategize stores and timing. Candidate must record results from each in-store demonstration, and have the store manager sign off. Candidate will be responsible for creating and maintaining a spreadsheet to track demos and other store visits.
The candidate must truly believe in the product, and act as a brand ambassador for belicious, taking opportunities to evangelize belicious with friends, family, colleagues, and peers. This includes using social media--both taking pictures/contributing posts to the belicious social media sites, as well as sharing content and posting on personal social media channels.
Successful candidates must also take a food handling class, and learn detailed information about belicious, including how it’s made, how it’s differentiated from other products, and why it’s an important new product category. Candidates must be able to easily and clearly articulate this information to potential customers in a way that’s engaging, and encourages people to try, and ultimately buy belicious blends.
Product demonstrations will take place at grocery stores around the Bay Area that carry belicious products, and occasionally at Farmer’s Markets. The candidate must have their own transportation, and be able to independently and reliably get to store locations. Mileage and gas will be reimbursed, and transportation time over 30 min will be considered billable at 50% rate.

RequirementsThe intern must live in the Bay Area, and be a self-starter, with an energetic and engaging demeanor. You must also have a desire to work hard to understand the inner workings of a start-up in the consumer packaged goods space. You must complete (or have already completed) a food handling course. Must have own transportation, current auto insurance, and a current drivers license. A strong interest in health and nutrition is desired. A desire to educate is also important. Experience building basic excel spreadsheets to track and record performance is critical.
