DescriptionThe Institute of Metabolic Disorders at Medical Diagnostic Laboratories, LLC, is a basic research division that focuses on targeting lipid-related diseases. Approximately 50% of the worlds population is obese, and this is associated with severe cardiovascular pathologies. Our goal is to identify small molecule modulators designed to target obesity. The Institute is made up of several PhD and MS level scientists. The Institute has mentored many undergraduate interns of a period of several years.
ResponsibilitiesOverall, the student will have a basic understanding of how hypothesis-driven research is carried out.
The student will perform basic molecular and biochemical methods that are needed to carry out state-of-the-art research.
In addition, the student will be taught to use and understand the current scientific literature needed to understand their particular area of research. At the end of the internship, the student will be able to come up with a hypothesis, determine the experiments needed to test the hypothesis, interpret the results obtained, and use those data to initiate further experiments.
