Innocence Matters is a nonprofit organization formed in 2010 and dedicated to preventing wrongful convictions and honoring the truth. We provide direct representation for innocent people, though our work is primarily focused on the broader goals of education, prevention and reform. We are particularly interested in improving the quality of indigent defense services and implementing systemic changes that will better protect the innocent and encourage the defense community to more quickly acknowledge and correct errors. Our preventative programs are designed to bring about lasting change and provide a broad toolkit for the innocent and their attorneys. Innocence Matters is seeking two qualified and committed interns to join our team immediately for the summer term. Our interns, like those who worked on John Smiths case, have the unique opportunity to undo a terrible injustice and, in the process, potentially change someones life forever! The stakes are high and the work can be challenging. We seek interns who have initiative, creativity, commitment, a tremendous work ethic, and a genuine desire and passion to protect the innocent. Teamwork is essential. Your internship will likely involve screening cases, prison visit, office work and organization, and investigative work. It will also involve administrative tasks, some social media and other tasks to grow and promote the organization. Applicants must be able to commit to a minimum of 6 weeks and 150 hours; those who can commit to up to 300 hours are greatly preferred. Interns are required to attend weekly team meeting, where each member will provide updates and participate in brainstorming sessions.
