English Language Arts / Writing Teachers
MEK Review —
Palisades Park, NJ
MEK is a learning academy located in Palisades Park, NJ, with a second location opening in Edison in 2012. Unlike businesses focused solely on testing and review, MEK builds strong foundations for students in all subjects to expand skills and fill-in the gaps left by public and even prestigious private education. We also counsel and advise students during application and competition processes. Qualified teachers lead group classes and instruct students one-on-one, and students span a wide range of academic abilities and cultural backgrounds.
MEK teachers, directors, and staff are models of leadership, embracing creativity and passion in education. We embody the same integrity and dedication we expect from our students, to which we infuse the skill, knowledge, strength, and experience of our diverse, professional backgrounds.
As MEK expands to a second, larger location in Edison, teachers are needed for English Language Arts and Math. Part-time positions are available immediately, with full-time work possible for successful candidates in the near future. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualification after base-rate training is completed.
Applicants should hold a degree in English, literature, or a related subject, and have strong writing and communication skills. Teaching certification is preferred, though not required. Teaching experience is a big plus.
English teachers lead classes in SAT writing and critical reading, middle grades critical reading / writing (literary analysis), academy preparation, vocabulary and analogies, and/or essay writing. Teachers also work individually with students in a writing lab, working on essay structure, literacy, and literary analysis.
Teachers must be able to grade essays using the NJ State Holistic Scoring Rubric and use various computer and web applications for student record keeping, grading, and materials preparation. Teachers may have to write and/or grade evaluation essays, take evaluation SAT or SATII exams, and teach a demonstration lecture. Strong organization, prioritization, communication, and charisma are required.

1. What are the qualities of an outstanding teacher?
