Summer Art Camp Internship

The George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts (GRFA) is seeking interns to assist with 2013 summer art camps. Interns will gain understanding in art education, arts integration and early childhood development while supporting a team of experienced art teachers and specialists. GRFA summer art camps are designed to inspire students to create and develop their own unique artistic style while exposing them to a wide variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional media. Each class explores age-appropriate elements of art and focuses on building a strong foundation in creative design. Qualified candidates should demonstrate a willingness to work with children ages three to thirteen. A background in the visual or performing arts is preferred, but not required. Other responsibilities include basic office tasks such as answering the phone, faxing, filing, photocopying and greeting visitors. Candidate must be proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and database application. Good reading, writing and communication skills is a must. The candidate may also be asked to help outside the office for special projects. Qualifications: No major is preferred, but candidate should have an interest in non-profit/charity work as well as a general understanding of the arts. The George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 2009 by the George Rodrigue family. GRFA mission is to advocate and support the development of our youth through the visual arts in education. There are several programs that GRFA has designed to meet this important objective. First, GRFA hosts an annual art contest and scholarship program for high school juniors and seniors. In two years, GRFA has awarded over $80,000 in college scholarships to Louisiana high school students. Second, Georges Art Closet is an program where GRFA will donate art supplies to schools that need it the most. Third, GRFA develops lesson plans for k-12 based on the art on George Rodrigue which are designed to integrate art into the classroom.
