Assistant for a Children's Book Illustrator / Gallery Intern

R. Gregory Christie, owner of Gas-Art Gifts LLC. has been freelancing as an illustrator for more than 17 years and has illustrated more than 28 childrens books. Some of his awards include a NAACP Image Award, three Coretta Scott King Honor Awards in Illustration , a Theodor Seuss Geisel Award and two New York Times 10 Best Illustrated Childrens Books of the Year Awards.
Mr. Christie seeks an intern to help maintain Gas- Art Gifts, a book store, art studio and community center located inside of in North Dekalb Mall in Decatur Ga.
*This is an unpaid internship with a small stipend. It is intended for any student seeking experience on running a shop, becoming a commercial artist or selling , promoting and packaging art to the general public and collectors.
We require 5 hours a week with a 2 month minimum commitment, failure to work the days of your internship will result in immediate termination of your internship and a forfeiture of the stipend.
Available internships may include the following:
Merchandising:
Work on the packaging, pricing and the display of store merchandise in order to effectively promote products to potential customers. This person will gain experience on the effective use of visual merchandising within a shop.
Photography:
Shoot original art, events and arrange items for product photography. Create images for the store's blog, catalogs and brochures. This person will gain experience as a photographer's assistant observing the varied ways photographs are used for a business.
Writing:
Write and edit press releases, copy for brochures and catalogs. maintain and update press releases, write store signage , blog entries and update press lists. This person will gain experience by observing the multiple needs a business has for writing and communication.
Graphic Designing:
Various designs including, Store signs, posters, website and blog updates, the branding of store merchandise and art show flyers.This person will gain experience in designing for a businesss specific needs.
Gallery Assistance:
Postage and deliveries, patch and paint walls, hang, frame and clean new art, pack art work, filing, photograph art for the month and post online images, observe the selling and presentation of archival artwork to collectors. This person will learn how a gallery is run and how to sell artwork.
Overall Sales Clerking:
Helping customers, working register, inventory, blogging, and shop maintenance. This person will gain hands-on experience on how to manage day-to-day tasks in a business and sell products to interested customers.
