art@rosiesplace
Overview
The art@rosiesplace program introduces guests to the arts through drama, dance, workshops, field trips and photography. Its goal is to provide artistic opportunities in a supportive, respectful and enjoyable atmosphere in order to enhance self-esteem and creativity as well as promote independence. Our offerings include single and multi-session workshops, open studio time, field trips and performances from outside groups. Classes are free of charge and open to any woman who wishes to participate regardless of her native language, educational background or learning ability.
Intern Responsibilities
The art@rosiesplace intern assists in teaching art classes 1-2 times a week. This involves planning lessons and leading workshops for a 1, 2 or 6-week session. Although training is provided and the program coordinator is available to give direction and answer questions, the intern will be expected to use her creativity and self-motivation in designing and executing workshops. The intern will also assist in completing the administrative tasks involved with offering a wide array of artistic programming.
Women's Craft Cooperative
Overview
The Womens Craft Cooperative (WCC) at Rosies Place provides paid work to poor and formerly homeless women who create one-of-a-kind jewelry and accessories from vintage buttons and beads in a safe, secure and supportive environment. Currently employing ten women of all ages and abilities, the WCC aims to foster self-esteem and creativity, along with employable skills, a greater earning potential and a source of income to the artisans.
Intern Responsibilities
In this hands-on position, the WCC intern will work closely with staff and guest employees in all aspects of this program. They will learn about running a small business in a social service environment. Working side by side with WCC members to create products and fulfill orders, interns also assist staff in marketing, sales and product design. Interns need the manual dexterity to create simple jewelry, an interest in learning about a small business, flexibility and the ability to move from one project to another.
