Overview:

The Finance intern position will assist in the areas of accounts payable, sales audit, taxes and general accounting; gaining an understanding of the duties and responsibilities in a corporate retail company.

This position is for Summer 2013, start and end dates vary according to school schedules.



Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable

  • Processing invoices and supporting documents through approval and archiving
  • Daily communication with internal customers and vendors
  • Issuing payments
  • Accurate filing of documents

Sales Audit

  • Assist in reconciling nightly deposits to ensure all transactions/deposits are complete
  • Assist in the reconciliation of physical inventories taken at store level
  • Learn to recognize issues related to cash shortages or fraud

Taxes

  • Assist in calculating, preparing, and timely filing all state sales tax returns, local personal property tax returns, and various other local tax returns and licenses forms
  • Acquire knowledge of corporate federal income and multi-state income, state sales and local personal property taxes, licenses and other local taxation.
  • Continuous monitoring of all state and local tax rate updates and changes

General Accounting

  • Ensure accuracy in month-end closing process
  • Reconciling/analyzing general ledger accounts
  • Financial statement preparation
  • Report and update financial information in Lawson
  • Support the companys cost containment initiatives
  • Cash reconciliation and inventory control


Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled, seeking a Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting or related major
  • Proficient in Excel and Word
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Strong communication writing and verbal skills required
  • Full-time candidate preferred, but flexible to accommodate academic schedules (Monday-Friday, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm).

Internship placement will be in one of the following functions: Contracts & Pricing, Estimating, Procurement Financial Analysis, Accounting, Financial Planning Analysis, Cost Management and/or Scheduling.
