Position Description
Engineering Intern for Boeing Huntsville Space and Commercial programs. Boeing Huntsville programs include Boeing Space Exploration and support to the Boeing Commercial Airline 787 Dreamliner design. The Huntsville Design Center and Advanced Design & Prototype Systems are key team members in the design and build process of the 787 and other commercial aircraft. New technologies and processes have been developed to help Boeing and its supplier partners achieve significant efficiency gains. Boeing Space Exploration is a leading provider of human space flight and space exploration systems and services. Space Exploration, a division within Boeing Defense, Space and Security Network and Space Systems business, employs approximately 3,000 people in Alabama, California, Florida and Texas. -Responsibilities may include:

    Responsible for developing purification processes for manufacturing novel viral vaccine candidates for toxicology studies and Phase I/II/III clinical trials.

    Execute experiments in close collaboration with Research and Technology Development team to establish Phase I-III clinical manufacturing process.

    Perform activities in support of definition of bulk purification processes for novel viral vaccine candidates (virus/virus-like particles, recombinant proteins).

    Prepare technology development study protocols and reports in support of process transfer and regulatory documents.

    Work independently on purification and analytical techniques on a daily basis: chromatography, ultrafiltration, centrifugation, SDS-PAGE, AKTA / HPLC.

    Design experiments to optimize unit operations for high process performance .

    Present results to colleagues at internal department and project meetings.

    Summarize data and write technical report for executed experiments.

    Qualifications:

    B.S. or M.S. required in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering or Biological Sciences.

    M.S. with 3-5 years experience or B.S. with 5-8 years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology or related life sciences industry. For fresh graduates, internship experience in a life-sciences industry is highly desirable. At least 1 year of exposure to purification techniques in research/development labs is required.

    Prior knowledge of purification processes and process separation technologies (chromatography, filtration/ultra-filtration, centrifugation, etc.) is highly desirable.

    Demonstrated laboratory skills in the purification technologies including associated analytical methods is a strong plus.

    Some experience in application of Design of Experiments and other statistical techniques is a strong plus.

    Must be a self-starter, be able to work with minimal supervision.
