WDP&R Merchandise Development delivers the best entertainment shopping experience in the world by creating magical merchandise memories inspired by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. WDP&R Merchandise Development is responsible for retail environments, the product design and placement of over 30,000 unique merchandise items for the all Walt Disney Parks and Resorts retail locations around the globe. Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Supporting design teams by creating and preparing product design concepts and final template technical drawings and specs for merchandise softlines or hardlines, products for Disney Theme Park Merchandise.

Major responsibilities include:
  • Translate trend and product inspiration ideas into visual product silhouette renderings and technical drawings such that construction information is accurately interpreted by suppliers.
  • Collaborates with Internal Sourcing team and manufacturing partners to understand production capabilities and limitations in order to develop actionable product specs.
  • Assess potential cost margin impact of fabrics, colors, trims, graphic treatments, technology components, and construction choices.
  • All information needed for merchandise manufacturing must be included in digital files.
  • Prepare computer files accurately for appropriate manufacturing processes in accordance to client/vendor applications.
  • Archive all project files within the standards established by the department.


Basic Qualifications These are the minimum qualifications you need to be considered for this position:
  • Currently enrolled in a 2 year, 4 year, or graduate school program pursuing a degree in graphic design or structural design with a focus on fashion and softlines drafting, patterns, construction and execution.
  • Proven ability to handle work and materials that are confidential in nature
  • Must submit a portfolio of professional work that demonstrates computer proficiency and creativity
  • Formal training in product design art field
  • Experience and knowledge of CAD systems, Gerber technology, Macintosh computers, and Illustrator and Photoshop programs.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Ability to work within established timelines, manage time to maximize productivity
  • Demonstrate good organizational skills and follow timelines on multiple projects. Prioritize tasks and work load to meet deadlines.

Additional InformationInternship Eligibility:
  • Must be enrolled in a U.S. college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Not have already completed two consecutive (spring/fall) College or Professional Internship Programs
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Must provide full work availability
  • Must provide own transportation to/from work
  • Current Active Disney cast members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (for Walt Disney World cast members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland cast members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months)


Program Length:
The approximate dates of this internship are June 2013 through January 2014. Interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship.

Housing:
A limited amount of company-sponsored housing is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
