The mission of the Fund for Animals Wildlife Center, a program of The Humane Society of the United States, is to create a humane and sustainable world for all animals, including people, through education advocacy, and the promotion of respect and compassion. Interns at FFWAC have the opportunity to learn about native wildlife in rehabilitation as well as the exotic species who are residents of our Sanctuary. An "intern" is anyone who chooses to perform services for FFA without monetary compensation but may be provided with on-site housing and academic credit, and who completes a specific project at the direction of and on behalf of FFA. Interns must be at least 18 years of age to apply. Internships are available year-round for a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week for 12 weeks up to 40 hours per week for at least 6 weeks; a total minimum commitment of 240 hours. Interns participate in the same activities as volunteers but in a more intense and individualized capacity. Interns will develop their own independent project which they must complete by the end of their term; the project will be confirmed with staff (and any applicable academic advisor) within the first 2 weeks of the interns program. On-site housing may be available for interns committing at least 30 hours per week and will be discussed after receipt of the initial application; please note your interest in housing accommodations in your cover letter. As interns may be traveling from outside of the area, in-person orientations are not required and a phone or Skype interview can be scheduled instead. At least two letters of recommendation must be submitted with the application form when applying for an internship. Copies of any academic requirements should also be submitted. International interns are solely responsible for obtaining any required Visas.

Department Overview:
This Disney Professional Internship provides experience working in a busy veterinary hospital records area. The intern will be working with the Medical Records Team to maintain animal records, ensure data integrity and work with the Animal Care Teams. Interns will use skills and technology to collect, monitor and maintain medical data for the Veterinary Services Team.



Responsibilities

  • File paper documents (lab work, clinical notes, treatment sheets, etc.) in the appropriate animals records.
  • Create medical records for new animals.
  • Archive inactive records.
  • Enter data into various spreadsheets.
  • Track lab results, consulting with outside labs when appropriate.
  • Distribute communication regarding avian gender determination lab results.
  • Travel to the Tri-Circle D Ranch® on a weekly basis to file and maintain records at that location.
  • Share information about medical records with guests during a weekly "on-stage" guest interaction session.
  • Work on various projects, as requested, for the Animal Care Staff.


Basic Qualifications You must meet the basic qualification in order to apply for the internship:

  • Minimum Grade Point Average of 3.0
  • Junior, senior or recent college graduate
  • Health Information Management, Veterinary Technician, Pre-Veterinary, Zoology or related major field of study
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately handle detailed information
  • Public speaking experience
  • Written communication skills
  • Minimum of six months of records and/or data management experience

Internship Eligibility:

POSITION SUMMARY The Asia/Eurasia Partnerships division is one of four regional teams within the Global Programs department of AmeriCares. We support health care and social service programs in such countries as Afghanistan, Armenia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Kosovo, the Philippines, Romania, and Uzbekistan. Our programs combine gift-in-kind aid donations with financial grants and training opportunities in order to build local capacity to address some of the most pressing health care issues, including: disaster management, maternal and neonatal survival, child nutrition, infectious disease outbreaks, and prevention and control of chronic conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The AmeriCares internship in Asia/Eurasia Partnerships provides an exciting opportunity for a student interested in humanitarian aid operations in the region. The team maintains/builds/enhances all of the online channels of communication including multiple web sites, applications and a growing presence in social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube). The team also creates/develops/publishes content for each channel. Our social media presence has expanded the responsibilities of the web team to build engagement with a growing online community. Reporting to the Web Marketing Manager, the social media intern will be directly involved in the daily creation and publication of content for Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and our blog platform. Writing skills and some social media experience are a basic requirement. In addition, the intern will develop periodic reports of social media data to evaluate campaign effectiveness and develop strategies. Research on new tools and applications that could expand our social networking presence will also be an ongoing project.
