We have an opening for a terrific internship at the Thypin Oltchick Institute for Womens Entreneurship, and you may know someone who would enjoy this learning experience. The following description was written from the prospective of one of our interns. Please contact me,Fabianne Gershon, for more information.
An internship at the Thypin Oltchick Institute for Womens Entrepreneurship @ FEGS, is a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about entrepreneurship as well as FEGS, one of the largest health and human services non-profit organizations in the U.S and its program for entrepreneurs.
The Entrepreneurship Institute itself is a small program within FEGS so the intern is directly involved in all of the Institutes activities. Only four years old, the Institute has helped over 4,000 women and men learn how to start or grow a business. It works with over 200 agencies and programs that help entrepreneurs and the intern is able to learn about many of these.
Rather than simply being assigned tasks, our intern participates in meetings, attends events, meets clients and gives input and ideas on, for instance, topics for a seminar for young entrepreneurs.
Job responsibilities include everything from posting events on the internet to learning how to advertise and promote an event. Planning seminars and actually directing the registration tables at those such as at the NYC Expo for Small Business at Javits Center, an intern gets the opportunity to speak to people about The Institute.
The Institute has a loan fund, for which the intern is the point person for much of the communications between the candidates and the advisory board of the fund. One learns about different businesses such as musical trios, costume design, retail stores, photography and their requirements and hears entrepreneurs describe why they were seeking a loan.
There is the opportunity to help write and create marketing materials such as brochures, event flyers and PowerPoint presentations. We are flexible in that our intern can schedule time around classes.
Most importantly, the internship is very flexible and can be suited to anyones interests. If the intern is more interested in one aspect such social networking or writing, they are free to pursue that aspect with the help of the incredibly experienced people who work here.
The freedom to think creatively, learn basic business skills, and use the ability to organize allows our interns to follow a project form beginning to end. Fluentness with word, power point, excel and surfing the internet and social networking enable our interns to be involved in more sophisticated projects.
