The Schermerhorn is a supportive housing project, run by CUCS, The Actor's Fund and Common Ground. The intern will be a volunteer for CUCS. The Center for Urban Community Services (CUCS) is a pioneer in creating comprehensive, effective housing and service programs for homeless and low-income people, primarily single adults, particularly those suffering from serious mental illness, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, and other disabling conditions. Since its inception at Columbia University in 1979, CUCS has also worked to improve public policy affecting the homeless and dispossessed. Thousands of formerly homeless people have found independence and rebuilt their lives with the help of CUCS' programs and services. The Center for Urban Community Services invites applications for 1 summer internship position at The Schermerhorn. The Schermerhorn, located in Boerum Hill Brooklyn, is a 216 unit supportive housing residence for low income tenants, many of whom have histories of mental illness, homelessness, substance abuse, trauma and /or HIV/AIDS. The summer intern will be an active participant on the core social services team at the Schermerhorn, with a focus on resource development to strengthen relationships with outside community providers. The intern will receive a monthly unlimited metro card for the duration of their internship, to accommodate travel to and from work as well as in the surrounding community to explore local resources.

INTERN POSITION TITLE: Intern, Social Media Marketing & Communications DEPARTMENT: Online Communications (Web) LOCATION: Stamford HQ ASSIGNMENT LENGTH AND HOURS: This is a summer internship opportunity and runs from June - August. This position requires a minimum commitment of 4 days/ week and consistent attendance to ensure that projects are seen to completion. ABOUT AMERICARES AmeriCares is a nonprofit global health and disaster relief organization that delivers medicines, medical supplies and aid to people in need around the world and across the United States. Since it was established in 1982, AmeriCares has distributed more than $10 billion in humanitarian aid to 164 countries. POSITION SUMMARY The Web Team in the Communications Department serves a global constituency of donors, recipients, partners (donor & program) and a growing community of people who are interested in the mission of AmeriCares. The team maintains/builds/enhances all of the online channels of communication including multiple web sites, applications and a growing presence in social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube). The team also creates/develops/publishes content for each channel. Our social media presence has expanded the responsibilities of the web team to build engagement with a growing online community. Reporting to the Web Marketing Manager, the social media intern will be directly involved in the daily creation and publication of content for Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and our blog platform. Writing skills and some social media experience are a basic requirement. In addition, the intern will develop periodic reports of social media data to evaluate campaign effectiveness and develop strategies. Research on new tools and applications that could expand our social networking presence will also be an ongoing project.

Interns will also be asked to participate in administrative work as needed, but the overall nature of the internship is highly substantive, focusing on specific projects as determined by the applicant and supervisor. In specific, the Conference and Events Intern will assist the Conference team in all aspects of planning and preparation for the 2013 Good Jobs, Green Jobs National Conference as well as the 2012 Right Stuff Awards. Staff, coordinate and supervise various Working Groups including Programming and Outreach for the 2013 GJGJ National Conference. Help execute an outreach plan to ensure participation of labor, environmental and regional organizations; businesses and industries; and federal, state and local agencies. Manage communications and construct tracking processes for various lists, commitments and registration. Also be able to assist with research tasks when available.
