Simon Chaitowitz Communications Fellowship

Physicians Committee for Responsible MedicineWashington, DC
Note: Now accepting applications for summer 2013 The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) is a nonprofit organization working toward compassionate and effective medical practice, research, and health promotion. For the last 27 years, PCRM has led the way for reforms of federal nutrition policies, and our clinical research programs are breaking new ground in diabetes, cancer, and other serious medical conditions. We have fought for an emphasis on prevention, higher ethical standards in research, and scientific advances in basic research and effective drug development. Over the years, we have taken on battles to end ethically questionable experiments involving children and inhumane animal experiments and have worked to improve science education. We have worked with physicians, federal regulators, politicians, researchers, educators, students, and concerned citizens. And we have so much more work to do. PCRM is seeking a motivated student to work on our communications team and learn practical applications of media relations and social media strategies. This fellowship honors Ms. Simon Chaitowitz, a writer, public relations professional and longtime leader of PCRMs communications department. General Description: The Simon Chaitowitz Communications Fellow will assist public relations professionals in the communications department, which publicizes PCRMs campaigns and projects. Terms of Employment: PCRM is located in the Metro-accessible Friendship Heights neighborhood in Washington, D.C. The compensation is $8.25 per hour. Free housing accommodations near the PCRM office may be available if needed. PCRM will assist fellows in obtaining course credit if applicable. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) opportunity that is available for a three month window between April and August 2013. Start and end dates are flexible. How to apply: Visit http://www.pcrm.org/about/about/internships to complete our online internship/fellowship application. Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis for the summer semester. PCRM fellows not only get to work on a daily basis with our experienced team of doctors, nutritionists, clinical researchers, toxicologists, and nonprofit professionals, but may have the opportunity to participate in staff education sessions, journal article discussions, Capitol Hill briefings, fundraisers, and other PCRM events.
