An up-and-coming website called TampaScoop.com is looking for interns for Summer 2012 and Fall 2012. TampaScoop.com is a news site featuring a comprehensive calendar with all current and upcoming events in Tampa Bay and articles and reviews on all the hottest spots in town. Expected launch date is September 2012. This is an opportunity for interns to be part of the start of a new company. The ideal candidate should be: -hardworking -observant -an excellent writer -interested in visiting and writing about new places and things -able to interact with the public in a professional manner -good at social networking In order to be considered for this internship you must be: -18 years of age or older -Hold at least a high school diploma or GED -Proficient in Microsoft Word -A current college student This is a non-paid internship. No experience is required but it is preferred. Each internship will be 3-4 months. Students work from home and must be from an accredited college in the Tampa Bay area (USF, HCC, University of Tampa, etc.). This internship does not give a student credit towards degree programs for participation and is for experience only and as an opportunity to add published work on to your resume. All students will be given a letter of recommendation upon successful completion of the internship. All students will retain the rights to their work and will have their names posted with their work. As an intern you will be given one writing assignment a week to complete. You will be asked to choose at attraction or event you would like to attend from a list of Tampa attractions and events (these are given on a first-come-first-serve basis). Once you have been assigned your attraction or event you will then be asked to research this attraction or event, visit it, and then write a review on it. Your review should include 5 - 10 pictures on-location, venue contact information, special events, and an interview with manager/owner, if possible. You may also be asked to periodically check in with the owners/managers of the companies you reviewed to find out about upcoming events. You will be required to touch base and talk with your supervising editor at least two times a week to let them know how your review is coming along. This can be via phone call, in person, by email, or through Skype. Throughout your interning process you will learn how to: -Research your writing assignments -Network and communicate with the managers/owners of venues and attractions -Include photography in your work -Write thorough reviews -Keep a record and calendar of past, current, and upcoming events -Meet deadlines -Communicate effectively with your supervising editor To apply, please email your contact information (phone and email) and what makes you right for this internship. The National Journalism Center combines 12 weeks of on-the-job training at a Washington, D.C.-based media outlet with once-weekly training seminars led by prominent journalists, policy experts, and NJC faculty. Interns are matched with a print, broadcast, or online media outlet based on their interests and experience, and spend 30 hours/week gaining practical, hands-on journalism experience. Potential placements include The Washington Times, The Washington Examiner, CNN, Fox News Channel, and more. One day a week is spent at the NJC seminar, where interns hone their writing and investigative reporting skills and gain a better understanding of media, society, and public policy, and the intersection between the three here in Washington, D.C.
