Paddling Guides and Instructors - part time Part-time guides are often apprenticing or interning while growing their outdoor leadership and sea kayaking skills. Staff may also be part-time if working with Lost Creek while holding down another job or taking college classes. Part time guides run day trips and assist full-time staff on longer trips. You must be available to work all day during the weekends, and are welcome to work during the week when work is available. Qualifications expected are the same as for Full-time staff though lower levels of paddling ability are to be expected at first. Position dates: June through Labor day with some shoulder season work possible. Apprentices and Interns can expect very light work loads until the end of June when the season starts to get busy. POSITION TITLE: Special Event Intern HOURS & SALARY: Unpaid, temporary position, 15-25 hours/week. Bus pass provided DATES: Summer 2013 (May or June-August; start and end dates are flexible.) REPORTS TO: Market Foundation Event Coordinator CLOSING DATE: Open until filled BACKGROUND The Market Foundation works to preserve the traditions and diversity of the Pike Place Market neighborhood by raising funds to support services located in the Pike Place Market historical district that benefit downtown Seattles low-income and senior residents. These include the Pike Market Medical Clinic, Senior Center, Child Care & Preschool and the Downtown Food Bank. The Foundation hosts events to raise funds and awareness for these efforts. POSITION SUMMARY The Market Foundations summer intern assists with the planning and production of one of our largest events of the year, Sunset Supper at the Market, to be held on August 16, 2013. Sunset Supper features food & beverages served by over 70 top Seattle restaurants, wineries, breweries and beverage companies. The event takes place on historic Pike Place overlooking Elliott Bay and attracts more than 1,000 guests. Entertainment includes live music and dancing, raffles and a great party atmosphere. This unpaid internship offers a unique opportunity for an individual with interests in event planning, non-profit fundraising, donor databases, and project management to gain hands-on experience of a large, complex charitable event.
