Research and Evaluation Intern

Coaching CorpsOakland, CA
Organizational Overview: Coaching Corps was founded on the twin truths that playing sports with well-trained coaches boosts kids social, physical, and educational growth, and that gross disparities exist in participation levels between low-income and middle-class youngsters, as well as between boys and girls. We work vigorously to eliminate these disparities by providing communities and after-school programs with the resources they need to use sports as a vehicle to improve health, education, and social outcomes for young people. Coaching Corps partners with colleges and universities to recruit, train, and place college students as volunteer coaches in after-school programs. In addition, we identify and encourage best practices within the youth sports and after-school fields, and advocate for public and private support and investment in youth sports for kids living in low-income communities. Over the past 10 years, Coaching Corps has created over 100,000 after-school sports opportunities for young people living in low-income communities. Coaching Corps is recognized as the leading intermediary in California and beyond, connecting students from over 40 universities with the rewards of community service and with kids who need trained coaches as teachers and role models. Our team is building an influential and vocal constituency of young people, policy-makers, and opinion leaders in support of youth sports for all kids, regardless of their circumstances or the neighborhood they live in. Internship Overview: Coaching Corps is at an important point in its development and is poised for significant growth. In the next few years we are expanding throughout California and nationally, while increasing our success in reaching kids who are least likely to participate in sports. We aim to reach 500,000 young people across the nation. To do this, it is critical that we effectively develop and measure the outcomes of our programmatic activities and disseminate our successes to our various constituencies. Coaching Corps is seeking highly motivated Research and Evaluation interns to help support the execution of our learning agenda around our programmatic activities. Interns will work directly with the Research and Evaluation team to assist with the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of our program data. The intern will have the opportunity to develop significant evaluation experience in the areas of youth, sports and outcomes and will interface with members of all Coaching Corps departments. Start date is immediate. Hours may range from 5-40 hours per week, depending on intern availability and interest. This is an unpaid position. Coaching Corps encourages participation from students who are seeking opportunities to apply for course credit with their school, as well as professionals who are looking to gain evaluation experience in order to return to graduate school.

MAKE A CHANGE: Assist those with severe physical disabilities. Team KOKO needs you!

Hope for the DayChicago, IL
KEEP ON KEEPING ON is a nonprofit organization assisting those living with severe physical disabilities and educating and empowering others to make a difference in their community Who We Are The Keep On Keeping On Team (TEAM KOKO) consists of a group of caring volunteers eager to make a difference in the Special Needs Community. Our focus is to both assist and raise awareness for those living with severe physical disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy and Muscular Dystrophy. It will forever be our duty to help others see more than just a "chair" or a disability, but to see an individual who has a lot to offer. We believe that anything is possible, and we will never give up on those who need our help most. We live by a simple motto: As long as you have a pulse, you must never give up, you must always...Keep On Keeping On! OUR HISTORY Our Founder and President Tim Wambach met Mike Berkson in the summer of 2001. Mike at the time was a 12-year old kid, living with Cerebral Palsy. Mikes sense of humor and overall attitude towards life inspired Tim to help others like Mike, and to educate and empower the rest. In the Spring of 2005 Tim wrote the book Keep On Keeping On (updated and republished as How We Roll), the story of his relationship with Mike. To create even more Awareness, Tim organized a 1-man run where he was to cover the distance between Orlando, FL to Chicago, IL during the month of August 2005. This run brought together the founding members of what is now The Keep On Keeping On Foundation. Dave Kunicki and Dan Joyce were pulled to the cause, and assisted Tim during his run. Shortly after, they started planning how to keep the momentum going and continue to raise awareness for the Special Needs Community. The team planned an annual christmas fundraiser called Santa Cause that has proved to be wildly successful. The overwhelmingly positive reaction to what they were trying to do proved to Tim, Dave and Dan that their calling was on a much larger scale. Armed with a dream and a call to action they received 501(c)(3) tax status in August 2007, and The Keep On Keeping On Foundation was born. KOKO now has a team of over 50 year-round volunteers, and hosts several fundraisers and special events each year to assist and raise awareness for those living with severe physical disabilities. We are looking for two interns for the summer and fall. Please view the responsibilities section of this post to see if you'd be a good match.
