Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation San Antonio, Texas Sherman Animal Care ComplexAnimal-Care Internship Established in 1977, Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation receives over 7,000 wild animals per year for rehabilitation and release as well as providing permanent sanctuary for more than 600 resident non-releasable indigenous wildlife, exotic wildlife farmed and companion animals. Wildlife Rescue operates a satellite facility in San Antonio (WRR:SA) that serves as a drop-off station for wildlife and companion animals, a media contact, gift shop, education center, and general portal to reach the San Antonio community. This facility works closely with our sanctuary located on 187 acres in Kendalia. Wildlife Rescue is looking for qualified candidates who are exploring a career path in animal care. Applications are now being accepted for the position of Animal Caretaker Intern at our new facility in San Antonio. This opportunity is appropriate for individuals who have an excellent educational background but lack substantial experience in working with animals. This position involves significant animal husbandry responsibilities, limited basic medical work, administrative duties (record keeping and telephone work), and fieldwork involving rescues, releases and transportation of animals. Day-to-day animal care responsibilities include feeding, cleaning cages, and monitoring behavior. Other duties include communicating with the public, answering our 24-hour hotline, working with volunteers and staff, and other administrative tasks. WRR:SA Interns will learn daily care basics as well as our philosophy of wildlife rehabilitation. Interns will assist staff in all aspects of daily care, cleaning, feeding and day-to-day operations of WRR:SA. This position involves substantial physical labor (must be able to lift 50 pounds) and flexibility to work in a variety of conditions and hours. A Good driving record is necessary. Ten openings are available each semester for the following shifts: 2 Opening-1:00 PM MWF 2 Noon-Closing MWF 2 Opening-1:00 PM TThS 2 Noon-Closing TThS 2 Sunday-Open to close (generally 12 hours) These 10 openings are available for each of the following time periods in 2011: January 25, 2010 to June 18, 2011 June 7, 2011 to August 27, 2011 August 16 to December 31, 2011 If you are interested in applying for this position, please submit a resume, letter of interest, and two references to the address below.
