Mental Health America is recruiting a Special Events Intern for the office in Alexandria, VA. The major focus of this position is planning and preparing for Mental Health America's Mind Your Health 5K Run/Walk in September 2013. This position is ideal for students interested in pursuing careers in events management, event planning, logistics, fundraising, or business. This position is available during the SPRING SEMESTER of 2013 and the SUMMER of 2013. We take pride in considering our internships hands-on' learning experiences. If you intern at our office, you'll get a wide range of experience and access to staff members who can help coach you and teach you practical applications for all the things you learned in school. As a Specal Events Intern, you'll learn how to put together a successful event from start to finish. You'll prospect partners, help plan communications and marketing strategies, draft copy and design flyers, come up with promotional events, work within a budget, and rally other staff members to support you.

This position requires a minimum commitment of 4 days/ week and consistent attendance to ensure that projects are seen to completion. ABOUT AMERICARES AmeriCares is a nonprofit global health and disaster relief organization that delivers medicines, medical supplies and aid to people in need around the world and across the United States. Since it was established in 1982, AmeriCares has distributed more than $10 billion in humanitarian aid to 164 countries. POSITION SUMMARY The Extended Network team manages projects spanning multiple global regions, as well as global partnerships qualified to receive medical donations that exceed the current demand of existing partnership networks. These partnerships include U.S.-based NGOs and health institutions based in-country. The Extended Network intern will support the day-to-day operations of the Extended Network team and work on specific projects designed to impact the teams work over fiscal year 2014.

These institutions, located in the United States and 38 countries around the world, include more than 2,000 general and specialty hospitals, outpatient clinics, community health programs, hospice residences, rehabilitation centers and homes for children and the elderly. In the U.S., AmeriCares supports more than 400 free clinics, community health centers, federally qualified health centers, health departments and social service organizations that serve the poor and uninsured. Last year, AmeriCares delivered more than $22 million in aid to its U.S. partners. The U.S. Program Intern will provide support to the U.S. team in the areas of partner management, data management, research and reporting. Specific assignments are noted below.
