Intern, Process Management

AmeriCaresStamford, CT
INTERN POSITION TITLE: Intern, Process Management DEPARTMENT: Gift in Kind Process Management LOCATION: Stamford, CT ASSIGNMENT LENGTH AND HOURS: This is a summer internship opportunity and runs from June - August. This position requires a minimum commitment of 4 days/ week and consistent attendance to ensure that projects are seen to completion. ABOUT AMERICARES AmeriCares is a nonprofit global health and disaster relief organization that delivers medicines, medical supplies and aid to people in need around the world and across the United States. Since it was established in 1982, AmeriCares has distributed more than $10 billion in humanitarian aid to 164 countries. POSITION SUMMARY The gift in kind process management team plays a key decision-making and coordinating role, overseeing the supply chain from the acceptance of product donations from pharmaceutical companies through the distribution of products to our international partners. We use several data tools to guide our decision-making and to help manage various processes. We are looking for an intern who can help us manage and improve upon at least one of these tools. This will include data entry and management on a daily basis, but wed also like the intern to improve upon the data tools and processes to make them more efficient and better resources for decision-making and reporting. Our interns role will be to dive into one of the data tools and processes and help the team to figure out how to manage sub-sections of information more thoroughly and efficiently. This project is for someone who is interested in how processes fit together and in how to improve upon existing processes. It will be data intensive and require strong .xls skills. It will also likely require working in Access databases, so familiarity with Access is a plus and comfort with data management tools is essential. The intern will need to be able to work independently, but also be willing to be pulled off of a given assignment to help with other short-term tasks or projects as needed. An additional project for our intern will be to improve upon our process for identifying appropriate recipients for unassigned inventory. This is a very hands-on project that will require spending time in our inventory system and in the warehouse identifying unassigned products and developing methods for identifying appropriate end recipients. As the intern is doing this, they will also be developing tools to ensure this is an on-going process that continues after the end of the internship. This project will require close work with an intern from the Global Partnerships team who will be tasked with a similar objective from the partner needs perspective.
