Since 2004, The Sankofa Center, a 501(c)(3) U.S. operated charity has educated village youths and adults about how HIV/AIDS is transmitted and prevented through artistic expression. They educate while changing perceptions using culturally comprehensive methods- African dance-dramas- in Ghana, West Africa. They also conduct free counseling, rapid HIV testing in village outreach tours, and provide links to treatment and life-saving drugs for thousands of women, men, and children in Ghana. Programs consisting of a local crew and cohorts of international interns from the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. run throughout the year. Program Description: The Sankofa Center fuses tradtional African dance, drama, & contemporary art genres with W.H.O. health information to educate Ghanaian youths & adults about HIV/AIDS. These very necessary performances are both entertaining & educational. Their program utilizes the vibrant energies of interns & a local team to tour various villages & schools to help eradicate HIV/AIDS in Africa through culturally appropriate methods! They also conduct risk assessment/risk reduction counseling & free rapid HIV testing during village outreach to link those needing treatment with medical partners as outlined by Ghana's National AIDS Control Program. International interns are accomodated with full room & board in The Sankofa Center Compound dormitory with exposure to real world traditional Ghanaian life with trusted host families living in the compound. Cultural exposure is also enhanced through weekend trips to popular tourist & beach destinatons. However, interns have the security of Western trained local staff, health and safety protocols, and American trained coordinators & staff liasions to assist interns throughout the duration of their tenure. On completion interns receive a Certificate of Completion commemorating their service providing a great tool for educational and personal advancement. Responsibilities:

Through hands-on experience,Interns at BAYADA Accounting learn all aspects of office accounting in order to become an Accounting' Associate.

As an Intern within the Accounting group you will learn to:

Review, compare and coordinate service office field employee payroll.

Prepare and distribute Accounts Payable.

Review expense reports for authorization, code and submit for payment.

Control, reconcile and replenish petty cash accounts.

Coordinate vendor setup with Director or his/her designee.

Respond to service office questions regarding accounts payable.

Receive, match and distribute all claims and invoices to the appropriate biller.

Receive, sort and distribute all billing documentation received from a service office according to established schedules.

Review all items received from the Reimbursement Services department for inclusion in the late list.



Health and Community Care project with rural women in India

The community healthcare project is a holistic program that works with marginalised women to provide culturally appropriate health education. This program provides cultural mediation between these women and local health and human services through the provision of health workshops and medical recording for the community. ?The aim of the Health and Community Care Project has been conceived to provide supplementary and complementary healthcare services in rural India, to support the services which are currently insufficient. We plan to develop community and individual health care education, medical care, wellness and fitness support and community care resources for women. ?The research stage of this project currently includes identifying the needs of community members, and delineating medical rights and incentives provided legally to marginalised women by the Indian government. This program seeks to build a working, sustainable and non-dependent relationship between the migrant women and the government hospital through hospital visits and assessing and analysing the system in relation to their needs.Future plans are for the establishment of a MAFAC (Mobile Ambulance and First Aid Clinic). Other Health and Community Care areas and activities include: Hygiene and sanitation clean and safe water Preventive healthcare Public health Promotion of nutritional food and eating habits Facilitation of mobile first aid and clinical facilities Developing equal opportunities and support for challenged and specially-abled Promote recreation/leisure facilities and activities and setting up exercise gyms, games stadiums ?and adventure sports centre Elderly care Yoga & Ayurveda facilities
