Innovation, pure and simple . First Data is looking for college or graduate school students to participate in a Summer 2012 internship with the Innovation team in Atlanta and launch a new Innovation Lab. The Innovation Team within the Global Product Management & Innovation organization is responsible, quite simply, for disrupting commerce. Were setting up a cross-functional lab within First Data to help bring about the revolution of universal commerce and youll be in on the ground floor.
Come join a new startup within a larger organization, where youll be participating in a consumer-driven approach to innovation (aka design thinking). Youll be an instrumental member of the lab, engaging directly with consumers, and working with our product managers, our user experience designers, our engineers, and more to uncover key unmet needs and rapid-prototype solutions to big problems. And, youll develop business cases for our best ideas and solutions, to meet the needs of our merchant and financial institutions customers, and then work to get the solutions built and launched into the market.
Job Specific ResponsibilitiesKey responsibilities include:
1. Voice of Consumer: Inject new thinking and new behaviors of consumers and commerce of the future, including trends and applications consumers are using, as an input to the Universal Commerce Lab team to bring a new perspective to the team 2. Participation in Innovation Process: Participate as a team member in the innovation process and lab, including Ideation, Rapid Prototyping, Testing directly with Users, and Iteration 3. Presentation of Consumer of Tomorrow: Bring key insights from throughout the internship to life and communicate the consumer of tomorrow to senior management
Additional responsibilities include: 1. Competitive Analysis: Keep a pulse on the movements and activities of companies big and small 2. Use Casing: Understand, analyze, and map out user experiences of existing products and potential concepts

Things will change not just by the day, but even by the hour. Were looking for a leader who can not only operate in that environment, but thrive in it. We need a leader who can be flexible, to adapt at a moments notice, but yet to still help us get to the solutions we need.
Learn, Contribute, Learn: Were looking for students who will come in and quickly learn an innovation methodology, then apply it as a key member of the innovation team, making key contributions early and often.
Mentoring: While its critical that the students contribute to the lab, its also critical for First Data to help the students get a better idea of their future career path. Regular mentoring conversations with those in the lab and those outside of it will be set up and access will be provided to top executives within First Data to help the students better figure out where they are going in their career, whether at First Data or beyond.
