Walt Disney World Public Relations InternshipCompany Overview: Since its opening in 1971, the
Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, FL has grown to feature four theme parks the
Magic Kingdom ® Park,
Epcot ®,
Disneys Hollywood Studios ®, and
Disneys Animal Kingdom ® Theme Park. In addition, more than 20 themed resort hotels, two water parks, and the Downtown Disney® Area, a daytime and nighttime entertainment complex, are part of the
Walt Disney World Resort.
Department Overview: Disney Destinations is comprised of five renowned resort locations around the world including
Disneyland ® Resort in California and
Walt Disney World ® Resort in Florida, and also encompasses the world-class
Disney Cruise Line ®, eight Disney Vacation Club® resorts and
Adventures by Disney ® (immersive Disney-guided travel around the world).
This position is part of the Disney Destinations Public Relations team. Supporting the Alliance Marketing organization, Disney Destinations PR drives Disney messages through a broad range of domestic and international consumer media including digital and social media. The teams PR efforts primarily support the Walt Disney World Resort business and are business-to-consumer focused, with emphasis on consumer and social media (e.g. news, travel, lifestyle, entertainment/celebrity, bloggers) in all formats (e.g. newspapers, magazines, online, digital, social, broadcast).
Responsibilities Support domestic and international PR and Social Media efforts targeted to markets served by Disney Destinations PR, including general domestic, US Hispanic and Latin America. Professional Interns support the PR teams core business, which includes managing relationships with consumer media, servicing on-property visits, participation in media FAMs and press events, Alliance Marketing support and internal communications.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Assist PR and Social Media Managers with projects, both in the office and in the field, including, but not limited to:
- Coordinating media visits and assist with hosting media on an as-needed basis
- Provide general administrative support, i.e. correspondence and phone coverage
- Assist in writing press releases and listings, captioning photos
- Create and maintain media-coverage summary reports
- Insure databases for media information, projects and other related information are current
- Assist with special projects as needed
Basic Qualifications These are the minimum qualifications you need to be considered for this position:
- Currently enrolled in a college or university as a junior or senior earning a degree majoring in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or similar major
- Demonstrated computer proficiency within a Windows or Mac environment
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated strong partnering skills
Preferred Qualifications- Prior Participation in the Disney College Program
- Previous internship experience in Journalism, Public Relations or Marketing
- Previous reporting/writing experience with a student or professional publication
- Familiarity with Associated Press writing styles
- Proven self starter and with the ability to balance multiple priorities
- Working knowledge of the Walt Disney World Resort
- Verbal and written proficiency in Spanish
Additional InformationInternship Eligibility:- Must be enrolled in a U.S. college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Not have already completed two consecutive (spring/fall) College or Professional Internship Programs
- Must possess unrestricted work authorization
- Must provide full work availability
- Must provide own transportation to/from work
- Current Active Disney cast members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (for Walt Disney World cast members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland cast members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months)
Program Length: The approximate dates of this internship are June 2013 through January 2014. Interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship.
Housing: A limited amount of company-sponsored housing is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
