The 1st Annual Leadership Newark Public Policy Summit will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013. The Summit will be a high profile, PR Worthy day long symposium where nationally known and locally active speakers, thinkers, and doers are coming together in an interactive environment to incubate solutions to specific issues. Think "TED" meets "Public Policy" in Newark. As 2013 commemorates Leadership Newarks 15th Anniversary, a Reunion Celebration will be held that evening closing out the days festivities. A typical Leadership Newark event draws people from government, non-profit, entertainment, corporate america, media, education and more! This will be a great networking experience. We seek some rock star interns that want to gain experience in the area of Marketing (emphasis in Grassroots Street Team, Video Production, PR) that will provide some great contacts, an impactful internship experience and letters of reference for job well done. If you can get college credit, awesome! We don't mind filling out the paperwork required for your school. You don't have to live, work or attend school in Newark, but if you are New Jersey based (live, work, school), we'd prefer it.

Advocacy and Public Outreach Internship

BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the worlds worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC in Atlanta office was established in 1979 and has resettled over 21,000 refugees from nearly 50 countries into the Greater Atlanta area. As the largest refugee resettlement agency in Georgia, the IRC in Atlanta resettles an average of 800 refugees into Georgia annually and provides additional services and assistance to another 1,500 refugees and asylees. SCOPE OF ADVOCACY AND PUBLIC OUTREACH INTERN WORK: This position is intended to provide a qualified Intern with opportunities to learn through experience about collaboration, advocacy and communication. In this role the Intern will report directly to IRCs Executive Director and represent IRC at the Coalition of Refugee Service Agencies, a network of Executive Directors of eight local refugee service agencies, to collect data, conduct research and develop promotional material aimed at promoting refugee resettlement in Georgia. Weekly hours will be flexible however preferred candidates will be available to start immediately.
