Equality Texas is in the business of securing equality in the state by advocating and lobbying for the elimination of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity/expression. Through our Public Policy/Legislative Advocacy Program, we lobby members of the Texas Legislature and the leaders of Texas cities, towns and counties to enact policies that strengthen families and promote equality. The Public Policy/Legislative Advocacy internship at Equality Texas includes a variety of tasks in which you can use and develop your policy and advocacy skills. Public policy interns are utilized year-round to assist the department in achieving its goals. We are currently seeking interns for the Spring Semester. The minimum time commitment for academic year interns is one semester. Interns are encouraged to earn credit for their time, but volunteers are welcome as well. Average hours per week are 12-20 hours with flexibility for actual days worked. All positions are non-paid. People with experience in public policy, advocacy, and law preferred. The Equality Texas office is located in downtown Austin within walking distance to the State Capitol. The office is a friendly and fun place to work. Internships with the Public Policy/Legislative Advocacy Department offer you a chance to make a difference while you build your experience and résumé. Community Affairs Intern

Who We are: Planned Parenthood of Northeast and Mid-Penn (PPNMP) serves 19 counties in Pennsylvania, home to over 25% of Pennsylvania residents. We have administrative offices in the Lehigh Valley, Harrisburg, and Reading, operate 9 medical centers that serve over 34,000 patients annually, and offer comprehensive sexuality education that reach thousands of teens and young adults. Our Mission: Our mission is to provide and promote high quality, comprehensive reproductive health care through medical services, education and advocacy. How You Will Create Change: Interns will spend ten weeks working in a variety of community affairs avenues: Public policy, Advocacy, and Legislative Affairs: interns will help to monitor legislative activity that affects Planned Parenthood, including reading and researching legislation, planning for and attending meetings with state legislators and other government officials, and assisting with the creation of a legislative database. Community Outreach: interns will help plan and recruit for a range of advocacy activities, including phone banks, patient engagement, campus groups, and the Capital Area Partnership Council. Communications and Media: interns will assist in maintaining databases of media materials and contacts; and aid in monitoring and analyzing various media outlets for coverage relating to Planned Parenthood issues. The intern will also aid with minor administrative work. Whats In It For You: Community Affairs Interns will have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of community engagement, with the possibility to focus on an area of interest. This internship can be used as a base for future graduate school or work in legislative affairs, advocacy, public policy, law, communications or media. In addition to being a substantive internship opportunity, the Community Affairs Internship is also available for academic credit. The intern is responsible for ensuring credit will be accepted and acquiring all necessary paperwork.
