Life Sciences R&D Summer Internship Program Overview Our Summer Internship Program provides a wide range of opportunities for current college students who are self-motivated and have a passion for science. We pride ourselves in offering real-world projects and providing students with multiple networking opportunities to help them learn and grow both personally and professionally. You will work on projects that provide first-hand experience of what it is like to work in the biotechnology industry. A number of R&D internship opportunities are available covering both fundamental as well as applied science. Internships will be anchored in one of our core research areas which include Water, Cleaning, Agriculture, Aquaculture, Animal Feed, and Fermentation Optimization. Summer internships are designed to be best suited for students who have completed their junior year of college. Internships begin May 13, 2013 and end August 2, 2013 dependent on the project. You must be able to work 40 hours per week for the length of the internship and must be available to complete the entire internship. Students are responsible for their own housing and transportation. Here's what it takes:

Enrollment in a B.S. program for Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related applicable Scientific or Engineering discipline.
Minimum 3.0 GPA (PLEASE INCLUDE GPA ON APPLICATION MATERIALS).
Hands on, practical laboratory experience including use of analytical equipment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Anticipated graduation December 2013 or May 2014.
Ability to work without sponsorship.

As a research associate, interns will be writing articles for COHAs highly regarded publication, the Washington Report on the Hemisphere (WRH); composing Opinion-Editorials and letters to the editor for publication in major national and international news media; performing personal interviews with Washington officials; attending Congressional hearings, legislative seminars, and various events on topics relevant to COHAs work; and assisting in office administration tasks such as maintaining subscription lists. An up-and-coming website called TampaScoop.com is looking for interns for Summer 2012 and Fall 2012. TampaScoop.com is a news site featuring a comprehensive calendar with all current and upcoming events in Tampa Bay and articles and reviews on all the hottest spots in town. Expected launch date is September 2012. This is an opportunity for interns to be part of the start of a new company. The ideal candidate should be: -hardworking -observant -an excellent writer -interested in visiting and writing about new places and things -able to interact with the public in a professional manner -good at social networking In order to be considered for this internship you must be: -18 years of age or older -Hold at least a high school diploma or GED -Proficient in Microsoft Word -A current college student This is a non-paid internship. No experience is required but it is preferred. Each internship will be 3-4 months. Students work from home and must be from an accredited college in the Tampa Bay area (USF, HCC, University of Tampa, etc.). This internship does not give a student credit towards degree programs for participation and is for experience only and as an opportunity to add published work on to your resume. All students will be given a letter of recommendation upon successful completion of the internship. All students will retain the rights to their work and will have their names posted with their work. As an intern you will be given one writing assignment a week to complete. You will be asked to choose at attraction or event you would like to attend from a list of Tampa attractions and events (these are given on a first-come-first-serve basis). Once you have been assigned your attraction or event you will then be asked to research this attraction or event, visit it, and then write a review on it. Your review should include 5 - 10 pictures on-location, venue contact information, special events, and an interview with manager/owner, if possible. You may also be asked to periodically check in with the owners/managers of the companies you reviewed to find out about upcoming events. You will be required to touch base and talk with your supervising editor at least two times a week to let them know how your review is coming along. This can be via phone call, in person, by email, or through Skype. Department Overview:
Develop new skills in your area of expertise, broaden your knowledge base, and enhance your communication and guest service abilities while working for one of the most recognized and respected companies in the world. The Plant Science Disney Professional Internship is designed to provide qualified college students with the opportunity to work in the unique agricultural greenhouses that are part of the Living with the Land attraction at Epcot . These interns are part of the Agricultural Sciences team that brings the excitement of agriculture to millions of Epcot guests each year.

Responsibilities

Maintain a high-quality greenhouse show of over 150 hydroponically-grown food crops from all over the globe. Propagate, transplant, irrigate, prune and harvest a wide variety of plants.
Provide show-quality maintenance and general cleanup: washing, raking and sweeping greenhouse areas.
Lead daily informative and interactive guest tours through the greenhouses, labs and aquaculture facility.
Participate in training sessions, classes and meetings, as scheduled.
Staff the Behind the Seeds Tour desk at Epcot to promote the tour, sign guests up for the tour, sell plant-related merchandise and answer general guest questions.

Basic Qualifications You must meet the basic qualification in order to apply for the internship:

College student or recent college graduate. Graduate students are not eligible for this internship.
Minimum overall GPA of 2.0.
Applicable background and/ or major in Plant Science, Horticulture, Food Crops, Biology, etc.
Strong interest in working with food crops in greenhouses.
Ability to interact with Walt Disney World ® Resort guests and cast members.
Team player with demonstrated verbal communication skills, work ethic, reliable transportation, and willingness to work on a flexible schedule.
