Xerox Research Center India is offering internship opportunities to outstanding students from top universities worldwide. Internships will be held in Bangalore, India, and are 3-6 months in duration to be scheduled either spring summer or fall. Applicants should have a strong background in one or more of algorithm design, optimization, machine learning, stochastic processes, game theory, social computing, human computer interaction, artificial intelligence or information security. Preference given to students with an interest in applying their expertise to solving theoretical or practical problems arising from topics in Human Computation such as Crowdsourcing. The goal of an internship is to participate in cutting edge research and in support of original and creative scientific projects. In the process it is expected that they will create valuable intellectual property and/or publish in top tier conferences and journals. Applicants should be enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Applied Statistics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND Save Our Seabirds Inc. located on City Island in Sarasota, FL is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of injured birds. Our 130,000 square foot facility is home to approximately 250 birds consisting of over 30 species both native and exotic. On average, Save Our Seabirds, Inc. cares for 800 to 1000 birds each year admitting anywhere between 3 and 10 birds a day. With volunteer help, our non-profit organization successfully rehabilitates and releases up to 65% of the birds in our care. We also offer education regarding the adverse impacts of humankind on wild birds, provide Oiled Wildlife Response and Training, and continually develop and maintain a unique avian Surrogate Parenting Program. INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY Our internship program seeks enthusiastic college students who are passionate in both the medical and ecological aspects of wild bird studies. Interns will gain interactive experience in the identification, handling and treatment of injured birds. Treatment of various species includes engaging tasks such as tube feeding, administration of intravenous medication, and physical therapy. Interns will also have the exciting opportunity to work with birds that require fitting and replacement of their special prosthetic limbs designed by Kevin Carroll, creator of Winter's famous prosthetic tail. In addition to hospital duties, an in depth study of anatomy, physiology, behavior, and dietary needs of different species will be covered extensively throughout the internship. (These concepts play a vital role in many diagnoses and are an important underlying element in any veterinary practice.) Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in our rescue response team and avian surrogate parenting program. The Hanover Township Senior Center was dedicated on April 2, 2005. It is a visible symbol of the support that this community has for its elders. A Senior Tax Referendum, "Support Our Seniors," was passed in November 2002 thanks to our seniors whose dedication and hard work incited its passage. This Referendum allowed for the construction and maintenance of a new Senior Center. And if youre looking to contribute to an established sports blog and earn school credit, all while receiving a crash course in the world of online media, one of those interns could be you. The details: Position #1: Social Media Intern SportsGrid is seeking one social media intern to help beef up our presences on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+, and also to patrol our comments section. Oh, and you'll get a chance to get some bylines too. Duties will include: - Posting stories and photos to our accounts, and interacting with readers, on the aforementioned social media sites. (Here's an example of a good Facebook photo post, and here's a very basic example of Twitter interaction you might have.) - Monitoring our comments section, responding to good comments, sometimes responding to bad comments, and deleting really bad comments. - Brainstorming ways to better engage readers on these sites. - Again, occasionally writing posts. Position #2: Copy editing/fact checking/tip-investigating intern SportsGrid is also seeking an intern whose primary duty it will be to read our stories and look for typos and awkward phrasing, check our facts, and make sure everything that should be linked is linked. Essentially, you're keeping our stories in line. And as with the other position, you'll get a chance to get some bylines of your own, too. Duties will include: - Reading all SportsGrid posts before publishing and alerting the author if there are any mistakes (typos, misspellings, grammatical flubs i.e. it's/its, a wrong statistic, a piece of information that should be linked out but isn't) that need fixing. - Writing some posts yourself. - Researching tips: we get tip emails from readers, and sometimes don't have the time to follow up on those tips as much as we'd like. You'll help us with that. If we get a tip that involves, say, researching combing through several Twitter users, or through the bowels of the internet in general, you'll be on the case - and, if the tip's worth pursuing, get to do some original reporting while you're at it. The ideal candidate: - Is a current college or graduate student looking for hands-on experience at a news startup. - Is familiar with our site, and the sports blogosphere in general. - Has three smart, witty writing clips that mesh with our style and will blow us away. At least one clip should not be about sports. - Possesses a clear knowledge of what works on the Internet and what doesnt. - Has an eclectic range of pop culture interests. - Is a Twitter addict. MT. PLEASANT, MICHIGAN, USA: EnviroScience, Inc. offers summer internships in our Lake Management division as part of the Milfoil Solution® program. This innovative biological control utilizes a native insect, the milfoil weevil, to manage Eurasian watermilfoil, an invasive aquatic plant. Full-time and co-op/intern position (may become regular full time at the end of the internship) A engineering research company in Northern Virginia is looking for a hands-on senior/ graduate student from Mechanical, Electrical or related Engineering major for an exciting mechanotronic project of national interests. Required Skills: Advanced skill level in hands-on mechanical and electrical engineering. Excellent hands-on skills in instrumentation and electrical assembly are required to perform this task. Knowledge of instrumentation and electronics for sensors, transducers, actuators will be extremely important. Basic skills in mechanical and electrical design required to prepare and interpret drawings. Experience/ basic knowledge in engineering FEA software tools such as COMSOL, Ansys, FEMLAB, LabVIEW. The candidate should be willing and able to learn one or more of these software tools. Preferred: Knowledge of nondestructive tests, semiconductor manufacturing process, composites, and acoustics. Part-time Paid internship- North Star Canoes Rentals is a small family owned Canoe and Kayak outfitter operating in Vermont and New Hampshire. We are looking for an intern for the summer 2013 Season. The intern will assist with the day to day operation and will have direct contact with customers and assist them with planning the logistics of both day and multi-day Canoe and Kayak trips. The Kansas Youth Soccer Association, located in Olathe Kansas is a non profit 501 (c) (3) youth sports organization which has been in existence since 1981. We are an Affiliate Member of the United States Youth Soccer Association and the United States Soccer Federation. We are seeking an intern who has an interest in Sports Administration and Program Management - preferring someone who has had experience in soccer as a player or coach.
