Chemotherapy is a mainstay of cancer treatment, yet despite many studies, the benefits and risks of chemotherapy have not been thoroughly evaluated. More alarmingly, growing evidence suggests that only a fraction of patients actually benefit from chemotherapy while others may be harmed unnecessarily. Thus, we are founding a non-profit organization to advance personalized cancer treatment and to help physicians and patients make the best choices by conducting imperative clinical trials. Dr. Christian Apfel, MD, PhD, is an adjunct professor at UCSF and has over a decade of experience designing and conducting research studies that have changed clinical practice. He is now assembling a team to undertake an even more ambitious goal: Saving one million life-years of unnecessary suffering from cancer within the next two decades. We are looking for motivated, creative, skilled, and dedicated interns with an interest in cancer research to assist in building our new non-profit organization, which is based in Larkspur, CA.
