Online Marketing/Communications Internship- Summer 2013

Internship Title: Online Marketing/Communications internship Internship Department: Marketing Objective: Assist in the aquariums external communication projects through the use of social media, the public website and e-mail. Responsibilities: Willingness to interact with external audiences through the aquariums social media channels Assist the online communications coordinator in planning, writing and scheduling posts on the aquariums social media channels. Continue and expand upon statistics reporting plan for social media, e-mail and web. Other duties as assigned. Final Product(s): The candidate will gain a solid grounding in his or her online marketing & communications skills needed to understand and navigate website management and the social media world for a not-for-profit organization. The candidate will be involved in promoting Shedds programs, events and educational opportunities. Qualifications: The online marketing/communications intern must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail. He or she must have the ability to work and be productive independently, but also be a valuable member of our team. A candidate must also think critically, creatively, be a self-starter, have a passion for public relations and possess excellent time-management skills. Intern should be proficient with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Photoshop, Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest. Experience in working with, or knowledge of, Tumblr, Instragram and Google Analytics a plus. Intern must be able to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends as necessary. Minimum GPA: 3.0 on a 4-point scale Desired year in school: College senior or recent undergrad graduate. Compensation: Unpaid. Final Product(s): Creation of an eLearning interactive coursework that will be used for training purposes throughout the Aquarium or other projects as determined. The candidate will be exposed to local, regional and national media and involved in promoting Shedds programs, events and educational opportunities. Compensation: Unpaid. Audience Research & Evaluation Internship- Summer 2013

Internship Title: Audience Research & Evaluation Internship Internship Department: Audience Research and Evaluation Department Objective: The Audience Research and Evaluation team is looking for an intern(s) who is interested in how a large cultural institution like Shedd Aquarium identifies and studies its audience and how it produces world-renowned exhibits and programs. Responsibilities: Interns assist in conducting evaluations and research related to guests, exhibits and programs at Shedd Aquarium. This process, in large part, includes gathering guest feedback though surveys and questionnaires, understanding guest choices by observation/tracking and gaining in-depth information by interviewing guests. Interns may serve in the following roles: A. Data analyst: The intern will be involved in database management, preparation of data for analysis and analyzing data using both quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as assisting with data collection, data entry, and writing and presenting results. B. Field evaluator: The intern will be involved in preparing and managing materials for data collection, collecting data (exit surveys, exhibit surveys, observations, etc.), entering data, and maintaining records and reports. Final Product(s): Social science field experience; completion of data analysis; writing evaluation report(s) of various exhibits and programs, as they relate to the Shedd Aquariums audience. Qualifications: The Audience Research and Evaluation team needs a motivated, self-starter with excellent communication skills who can work in teams and independently. A friendly, optimistic attitude and energetic personality is a must. Candidate needs to have good attention to detail; able to work within tight timelines and in a busy environment. Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis a plus. Must be comfortable approaching guests for interviews and questionnaires; able to stand and move quickly through the public areas of the building, including stairs, for several hours. Computer proficiency including intermediate knowledge of Microsoft office (Excel and Word); experience with SPSS preferred. Experience conducting literature searches and writing literature reviews and/or annotated bibliographies

Internship Title: Human Resources Internship Internship Department: Human Resources Objective: Develop skills and experience/exposure to the following areas of human resources: Recruiting and Onboarding Staff training for HRIS systems Benefit Administration and Design (Specifically Wellness Initiatives and Medical Plans) Job Description analysis/development Responsibilities: This intern will assist the VP and Director of HR in the above mentioned core areas of Human Resources. Specifically, the intern may assist with developing interview questions, conducting phone screens, observing and participating in the onboarding process, participating in staff training for new employee HRIS self service tool, learn about benefit design and selection processes for business partners, assist director facilitate a wellness team which will guide wellness program enhancements. Final Product(s): New hires for Shedd- which the intern has assisted in selecting, the development of the Shedd Wellness look/Brand and come corresponding wellness activities, experience/exposure to an RFP process for new partnerships, Job Description design/analysis exposure. Qualifications: A desirable candidate must be outgoing, work well with teams and independently, be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, think creatively and effectively manage his or her time. Previous internship or job experience in Human Resources helpful, but not required. Good verbal and written communication skills is a must. Must maintain confidentiality.
